Crashes to desktop!

:uhoh: I just tried playing BF1942 on my new comp and it crashes to the desktop! Firstly on the very first screen before the EA logo, but I can click it in the system tray and it comes back. Then once I try to play a "instant game" or whatever it's called. I have the 1.5patch.

Comp specs:
AMD XP 2800+
GA-7N400-L
Radeon 9800 (flashed to pro) running Cat3.9 (Cat 3.6 diddnt work either.)

Any ideas?

Hi,

Firstly, if you're running your Desktop at a different refreshrate to that of BF (BF will run at 60hz unless told otherwise), then this can cause crashes. Navigate to your VideoDefault.con file, which can be found in your battlefield 1942/mods/bf1942/Settings directory, and open it (open in notepad). Change renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0 to renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1.

You can then go into the Video settings of BF and change the refreshrate to your desktop.

If this doesnt work we'll need to find a bit more info;

Whats contained in your error log? (which can be found in your battlfield1942/mods/bf1942/logs directory)

Have you installed any custom maps recently?

Hope this helps.

I'm running a clean install of plain old BF1942 without either expansion or any mods. The only thing i've added to it is patch 1.5

I'll try that refresh rate fix because my desktop is running at 75hz.

I'm not sure if you can.

Just noticed - your Radeon is flashed to a Pro? Do you have any problems in any of your other games? Because it could be this causing the issue with BF.

Also, make sure you totally removed the old drivers, and that the latest DX9 is installed.

I flashed it before I even installed windows.

Other games work fine... Well the ones i've tested:-

-Freelancer
-Vice City
-Jedi Academy
-Mafia
-Vietcong
-Medieval Total War

I am actually totally stuck as to what the problem could be....

Because your errorlog is 'clean' and doesnt suggest there's a problem with the game :(

I'll do a bit of investigation - but what I would suggest in the meantime is doing a fresh install - incase its just a matter of the previous one being corrupt. Use the full 1.5 patch aswell.

Dont know how or why, but that fixed it! All is working good now.

Maybe its because I installed 1.45 then 1.45>1.5 oh well. It's working now.
