Just saw that doco on BBC Two, truly stunning. It really is a beautiful plane, I'm only sad that I'll never get to fly in it.

Such a fantastic aircraft, it really is a shame it's stopped flying. One of the last aircraft that could be considered truely 'British'
I'm sure in a few years time, when the air travel industry is losing more money, British Airways will bring it back into service - we can only hope.
Like you, I'm sad that I never managed to have a flight on it.

Freaky, I just watched a documentary at the same time on the Discovery channel about the crash 3 years ago.
Tis a lovely plane though.

Yeah I watched that doco, seen a few others over the years too. The plane is truly amazing, even now many years after its appearance it still has people stare at it in amazement.
It looks good on the ground but absolutely stunning during flight like the SR71, and like the SR71 it is only ever seems at home while flying

That footage they had in the rather romantic sequence early on, as it was flying over the clouds said it all. She looked so elegant.

Is it true that on one of the first promo vids for the Concorde that they recorded, there's apparently a UFO that does a coule of circles around the plane?

I been on it ! My father had a windfall in shares in his company many years ago and took me and my sister on a round trip, bloody fantastic.
Also at the last Queens 50th, when it flew over Buckingham Palace with the Red Arrows, it flew over my house first ! Now that was a great sight.
I caught the last bits of the programme, but I can never understand why its always been put forward as an example of Britsh engineering, it took French collaberation to do it, both the aircraft and the company who built it have a French name, and it was the French who benefitted in their military and civil aviation industry.
In the end our government had to give it away, it was effectively abandoned, just like with everything else in British innovation, the Falstaff Missile, the Blue Streak missile, the TSR2, the list is endless.
I would have been more proud of it if we'd actually got something out of all the millions spent on it.

ive flew on it and its even better in the air , 1st class is like a bentley style limo .....and even better it pisses the yanks off cause they cud never build anything like it hehe

I've been on the one in Beaulie (sp?) air museum, but not the real thing.
I reckon in 30 years some old duffers will do one up and fly it around at airshows.

They should let Richard Branson buy it. Ok virgin travel is shit but at least he'd keep it going. BA are up to something though I think, they're taking it out of service without letting anybody buy it off them. That's like owning a nice new Bentley and deciding not to use it anymore but not bothering to sell it even though you probably need the money.

My first sighting of Concorde was at the age of about 3 or 4, when it wasn't even in passenger service yet but appeared at Farnborough Air Show. The flight path to the show took her right down my road, and I stood next to my Mum screaming in terror at the noise but she didn't realise as she couldn't hear me.
I have since been aboard when working at Heathrow, and the thing you don't realise is how small she is inside. I have also stood just a couple of hundred yards off the runway when she's taken off, and she still knocks your ears out despite the improvements made.
I live on her flight path out of heathrow, albeit far enough away that she's not offensive in terms of the noise, and the hairs on the back of my neck still tingle as I hear her flying over. I never fail to stop and just watch her out of view, with a genuine sense of awe and wonder at the sheer beauty of her.
I'm going to miss her, to be honest

I was on the train the other day and saw concorde out of the window. It was odd as it just seemed to be hovering in the sky. No vapour trail or anything. Looked pretty cool.

That's becuase it flys at something ridiculous like 60,000 ft. So high up it looks as if it's hovering. In comparison to a regular 767.

One of my friends got laid in the back of a Concorde once...(it was on the ground at the time though, so membership of the Mile High Club wasn't forthcoming).

didnt think that was possible in such a confined space, and imagine the cleaning bill afterwards!
only time i've seen concorde "close up" was an air show in Northern Ireland years ago, it flew in, let its rear wheels touch tarmac then took off again.

Does anyone know if something similar is being built? It seems like a step backwards not having a faster plane to replace it.
