Glad to see the Catholic Church is exploring things in a scientific manner, maybe one day they'll eventually agree that the Earth goes round the Sun.

Woohoo! Oh how proud I am of my ("sort of partial sometimes") Catholicism...

:(

I'd built myself up into a reasonable state of mind where the Church - while sometimes disagreeable - wasn't as big a conflict any more.
Arse...

It just doesn't make any sense, unless they really don't understand what HIV is - they seem to have shunned science in this instance as it is.

Thinking about it... It's all my fault, I watched Dogma on TV the other night. I'm sorry!

The thing that gets me the most, is that - from the church's pov - they are trying to protect the sanctity of sex, ok fine. But then rather than simply discouraging people from having sex outside marriage (an altogether less offensive viewpoint) they wage war on contraception... Although I'm sure that media bias will have some part of it, I've not heard anything from the Church about the actual values behind it...

As bad as the bloody politicians :(

Probably. If I was still loyal to the Catholics then I'd go to mass effort to find some politcal atrocity to compare - but frankly, they can speak for themselves, they seem convinced that they are doing the right thing...

Contraception is not allowed within marriage.

For a fuller study I refer you to Monty Python's Meaning of Life sequence Every Little Sperm Is Sacred.

In most countries in the world, they _are_ the "bloody politicians".

Indeed - I was going to brush over that.
I guess my point is, if they were to instead preach their values (e.g. sanctity of marriage, one partner for life etc.), then anyone choosing to follow it would have a massively reduced risk of catching or spreading STDs.

I guess that's far too sensible...

EDIT:// And yes, I know that the above implies the Church giving people a choice.

The sick fucks. They surely know they are lying and that people will die. Unbelievable.

The problem is that "marriage" is strictly that which, in their view, is endorsed by the official Catholic Church, it will be too difficult to accept that people can not only get married in other religions/cultures, but indeed people can "partner for life" without marriage even being involved, in all cases the "value" and "sanctity" is still maintained, and the spread of AIDS/HIV minimised.

The Catholic Church is all about control of people; you can't have sex unless you are married and you can't get married unless it is by the Catholic Church, that's a pretty damn good incentive to follow, and in the cloudy dreamy god-inspired cuckoo land the Catholic Church lives in, it is possible to achieve, despite all the facts we know about human behaviour.

You may well be deluded into thinking that what the Church preaches is about "values", the reality is not so.

Can't wait till I eventually rise to power and ban all religions.

The world would be so much more peaceful.

Id vote for that.

I really liked the line in Dogma about the difference between beliefs and ideas... people kill for one and not the other.

IMO i think thats what religion should be about.

lol

I ment that i think that religion should be about ideas that guide you though life, not a set of rules to adhere to.

My bad :)

You think?

You think that if you went up to the millions of people who actively (peacefully and harmlessly) practice their faith through religion there would be peace?

It's quite shocking.
What's more shocking, for me, was reading the title of the thread as 'Charlotte Church strikes again'. Then proceeding to read the link posted, i was somewhat disturbed.

I reckon the film Stigmata has some valid points when looking at this story.

Please remember everyone, the Catholic Church is only a few centuries old and still has a lot to learn, especially about things like child abuse.

The part of the seperation of procreation and sex I never fully grasped is as follows:

What if you are firing blanks? Are you still allowed to shag your wife? What about if she's post menapause? what if she's breast-feeding?

There are dozens of reasons whereby it's phyiscally IMPOSSIBLE to procreate due to medical reasons - where does the church stand on that? I don't think I've ever seen a reasoned response to that question - simply because it exposes that aspect of their assertion of control for what it really is - ie. fundamentally and inescapably flawed.

...and how priests think they can get 12 yr old choir boys pregnant by pumping their azzes full of man fat I'll never know...

:(

The Catholic Church has refused marriage to paraplegics on the grounds that they cannot consummate the union.

I lost interest in religon pretty much when i learnt to think for myself.

But its good to believe in something, but i've always considered god to be just human charactersitics such as hope, empathy trust love so on so on. Believe in self, rather than a spirit that decides on your afterlife.

Things like that asure me atheist is the best religion.
