Take any number...
multiply it by two...
add to it... hmm... 28
divide the total by two...
subtract the number you picked at first...
you then get....

14

1.2735 x 2 =2.547
2.547+28=30.547
30.547 - 1.2735 = 29.2735

Did you mean any whole number by any chance? ;)

Ooh introducing 28 into the equation as some point is sure gonna get you on your way to 14 :)

OK heres one think of ANY persons name, no Eskimo or Red Indian ones, and I'll come up with a song with that name in it.

100*2+28/2-100 = 14

29*2+28/2-200 = 14

1*2+28/2-1 = 14

hmmm, hes correct, that sumbs a bit like

4*4/4-4+4 = 4

etc

*tries to look amazed but fails*

Hmm... it's just math, and simple one at that.
Where's the amazement? :p

"Take any number and subtract that with the number you just picked and you get..... ZERO! WOW!" <-- See what I mean? :D

So we pick a number, X

times it by 2, = 2X
add 28, = 2X+28
divide everything by 2, = X+14
subtract X, = 14

you then get
14

This is maths for 10 year olds

I'm AMAZED that you thought we were stupid enough to be amazed. I thought better of you SFXman

you forgot to divide by two ;) (nice try tho :))

1.2735 x 2 = 2.547

2.547 + 28 = 30.547

30.547 / 2 = 15.2735

15.2735 - 1.2735 = 14

You can't break the laws of maths (unless you allow divide by 0, or state using the sqrt of -1 in your equations.)

now this is more amazing..

Proof that 2 = 1

x = y
=> xx = yy (everyone with this so far?)
=> xx = xy (since x = y, this is the same thing)
=> xx - yy = xy - yy (subs yy from both sides, doesn't change anything)
=> (x - y) (x + y) = y (x - y) (simple factorisation)
=> (x + y) = y (remove the common factor)
=> 2y = y (since x = y)
=> 2 = 1 (divide through by Y)

This is a fairly common (flawed) proof of 2 =1 (been up on one of the whiteboards at uni all year) I guess I could ask someone to point out the flaw and offer prizes or something .. but I won't.

these usually come round in emails saying

"wow! it gives you your date of birth when you put it in!"

Take the last two digits of the year you were born.
subtract 102
times by -1

add 1 if you've had a birthday already this year you ancient wrinkly freak.

Oh MY GOD! It's your AGE! WoW! GEE THAT'S SO FREAKY MAN!
PASS IT ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS! LET THEM BE AMAZED! (if they can lift their knuckles from the ground)

caps required of course

at one point you remove a factor of (x-y) which by definition is (y-y) which is 0.

Therefore you can't actually make that factorisation :)
