I suppose the "!!1" stands for sarcasm?
If I had that "1" in there I'd be showing sarcasm in that comment. Don't know about you, sometimes you can't tell for sure if someone is religious or not :p
I sure as hell aint.

I don't think so.
Not all people believe in something there really is no proof of except some "generation to generation"^25 tales and a damn book. So putting that there could annoy some people, such as me, and it wouldn't be a very neutral thing to put there.
So fuck it.

The history of christmas dates back over 4000 years.
So uh, what the fuck does some single dude who most likely didn't even exist have to do with it? He might've existed but was just a normal dude.
All the church and religion has to do with any of it is that they took pagan beliefs and molded them into one celebration that stood for "the birth of christ", which now is called christmas.
As to the reason why the church did it, they were not fond of pagans and since the church had enough influence they were able to "steal" the traditions to make their own celebration.
Simple...

SFX IS T3H P4G4N!!!11

And for the love of all things green, surely a picture of Jesus Christ™ in the top-left of your screen for a few days won't cause you to go bananas....

I aint no pagan, I aint no believer in things without proof. Right now I can't remember what that was called, maybe an atheist? Oh well, nm...
Won't cause me to go bananas but sure wont make the forum browsing any better.

Yeah but santa is neutral, it is something that kids believe in and it really doesn't mean much to us adults. It is just a portrayal of kindness that is shown during christmas time.
So a santa there wouldn't be an issue.

Actually, most people, from a lot of faiths believe Jesus Christ to be holy. Maybe not the son of god, in some people's opinions he was a prophet of god. He is THE reason for 'christ'-mas.

The fact remains that the only reason we are getting a week off to drink and give each other presents is because people believe Jesus was born 2000 years ago.

Truth or not, frankly I don't give a shit. I'll believe what I want.

Christmas is fun and I get a paid week off work, a 19" Monitor and 24 cans of Stella off my boss tomorrow. :D

So get a picture of Jesus on Barrysworld and be different.

As far as I know an atheist is someone who does not believe in any god at all, I know quite a few atheists who are as ignorant as quite a few christians/muslims I know... i.e refuse to believe anything else and won't even listen to arguments etc

an agnostic is someone who is neutral to the whole thing, i.e not sure or confused :)

Thats what I think they mean anyway.

In case your wondering I am agnostic (my despcription, and yes... confused ;) ). Tbh I sorta wish there was alot of evidence on the god squad side, wouldn't it be nice to not just believe, but know that you will go to heaven if you follow some simple rules?

Ohh and while we are on the topic of religion let me ask you this......

Say the one true religion was a wierd african religion which is only practiced by 100 people, these people all follow the rules and regulations of there religion carefully and go to heaven. What happens to all the die hard followers of other religions who have done nothing wrong in there entire life and are being banished to the eternal fires of hell for not going to a remote part of africa? Is that fair and if so why the hell would I want to worship that kinda god <cough> retard <cough> :D

Anyway, I think I've sorta hi jacked the thread with my religious blabberings ;)

Personally, I believe that if you're a good person it doesn't matter what religion you follow, you're still gonna get screwed by the man....

I need to stay out of this... no reason in trying to teach something to someone who is stupid enough to write this. lol The number one most proven fact in the whole world, and look it up if you don't believe me, is that Jesus was a true man who was persecuted and died and he claimed to be the son of God. And the reason it is the number 1 most proven fact is that there was so much documents to back this up and eye witnesses. They even say that there is more proof about this then Alexander the Great! Now you believe what you want... it is after all a free country.. but to say he might not of even existed? lol that's kinda ignorant. And putting others down for what they believe in is just out right childish.

You are right about one thing, there was a celebration of what we now call Christmas over 4000 years ago but it was called "Saturnalia" and was very different then it is now.. If you like to go around sacrificing boars heads to the sun and having strange ritual's far be it from me to stop you. For reasons that you can not even begin to comprehend it was changed into what we now call it. Its more or less a worldly holiday and "true Christians" don't really see it as Jesus birth, but its celebrated nonetheless.

Saying there is no proof of his existence or that he was truly the son of God is just arrogant as well... you believe what you want to.. But don't mock someone who has actually studied it and knows why they believe what they do and really sees that there is an existence of a greater force beyond what we can comprehend.

As to having Jesus on the BW banner... lol no that's just out right silly... :p

:p

P.S. You might want to look at the hisory os santa before you say what you do about him too... lol you might be shocked..

Aye he hijacked the winter festival, git :)
(and the spring fertility one too - just imagine how much fun that would be otherwise... oh well back to rolling eggs)

Oh well, still an excuse to get blindingly drunk, eat too much, sleep too much and engage in unrestricted encouragement of capitalism.

Yeah, I heard about there being some man who claimed to be the son of god, still... he could've been a total nutcase for all we know. Eye-witnesses to whatever he did... hmm, wonder how reliable those reports are them being 2000 or something years old.
But anyway, doesn't matter.
Not like religion plays an important role anyway so might as well let whomever wants to use up their time on such ramblings do so. Just my opinion.

Hell? What's that supposed to be besides something that some book tells about or something the church has made up to get people to behave well to ease the work of police or the law. A moral/mental make believe law/punishment in a sense.
o_O
Anyway, how about we drop the whole discussion even though I started it :p
Unless you count the picture that was shown.
I for one am not going to change my opinion on the matter. Many things have molded my opinion and some have strengthened the ludicrous picture the church gives.

Documented eh?

Funny that the Romans, who were around at the time, and had quite a bit to do with the whole event, and were very meticulous archivers of information, never ONCE mentioned this Jesus guy, not to praise him or dis him.

If Jesus reappeared tomorrow, we'd fuk him off as a looney.

First thing I'd say to him.
"Why does your dad let little kids get cancer?"

A religious discussion!

they're the best to read, as both sides are ignorant dickheads refusing to even try and understand eachother.
as is so well proven here by SFX and Seeaira :)

as for the G man in the banner. can't say I'd care. I'm ehere to read and post, not spend my days staring at the top of the page :D

Maybe so but I just think that jesus should not be universally related to christmas because it just aint so... even people who don't give a rats ass about church etc. celebrate christmas. Santa is this "everybody's christmas figure, not a man in a robe and a beard.
I don't go around dissing all people who go to church but if they try preach about their ways or say anything about people´s "obligation" to go to church or whatever they are not going to hear the end of it right there and then...
Sure I BELONG to the church through my family but I sure as hell never go there unless compulsory (which was once in my life)...
