No, this is not the eagerly awaited return of the FOOTBALL hooligans to BarrysWorld, I've just been watching to much Alan Partridge :)

--Anyway, I made this thread to announce that somewhere in the near future I shall be blessed with ISDN.

I shall cast ye old can and piece of string into yonder!

[EDIT: Aside from football, did you notice the clever pun in the title?]

Well, glad this is not a soccer thread.
Anyway, ISDN is a "advanced string+can" but it just costs a fair bit and for example my cable which is 4-5x faster cost less, and that is 4-5x faster than 128k ISDN (~16-20kb/s). Sure ISDN is very very reliable and packet loss is 0% around 99.99999999% of the time... still...

It actually works out about even for me (£££), since I was paying for an extra phone line.

It's also the only other type of internet connection available to me, other than 56k.

Besides that, it's faster and more reliable than my tin can and pice of string :)

Yeh, remember, they haven't long invented the wheel where Twog lives and probably never heard of broadband. :p

Soccer hooligans better keep away still.
Anyway, ISDN is at least twice as expensive as 56k simply because if you want it to be twice as fast you need to pay for two phone lines at the same time... so double your phone bill compared to 56k unless you only use one line.
Then again there do exist these "after 5 o'clock it's free" things etc. etc. etc... but those usually apply to modems as well.

I pay a wee bit below £30 a month, and that includes everything.

Before I was paying £15 a month for the ISP unlimited access, and about £10 a month for the extra phone line (So the missus could actually use the phone now and again).

An extra £5 a month that would have gone on mars bars and cheap wine seems reasonable to me, for this speedier connection with virtually no packetloss.
