The research, carried out for the BSA anti-piracy group, revealed that piracy is stunting the growth of software firms worldwide.

Love it :)

I wonder if there has been a study on how companys that use pirated software have increased their buisness, efficiency etc??? I wonder if that would show that more cash and jobs is acutally created due to piracy??

I'd love to see an interview with some software developers that have been affected by piracy. They could do it in the companies car park. You know, right in front of the 15 Ferraris :)

The study was drawn up by analyst firm IDC and found that countries enforcing anti-piracy laws tend to have larger and more creative technology sectors.

Hong Kong has MASSIVE software piracy, they have huge piracy markets where you can buy 5 cd's for 3 quid or there abouts. Afaik, Hong Kong has quite a decent technolocy sector (whatever that means). I mean, don't they have toilets that wipe their own seats (a la Jackass)

Hong Kong != Japan

Jackass visited Japan

The technology sectors in the far east are failing miserably (the design/innovation areas, not the manufacture/production sub-sectors)
