If you fail - get a job. Then once past 21 years of age, apply to Uni as a mature student. Do a 1 year access/foundation course or just blag your way directly onto a degree.

I went to Uni at 25 and actually wanted to pass, the 18 yr olds couldn't give a fuck and were bored shitless of studying for years (dont blame them either).

I think its more enjoyable when you want to study for yourself and not so much for your parents.

I got a B in my Computer Science A level. Oh yeah, that was about 7 years ago though. Go me :clap: :D

my grades are all over the bloody place though :( Almost A in some units, and 1 mark from a fail in others

and Xtro, I was thinking about doing that, but I might as well get it out of the way now :) besides, studying aint bad... especially since I work part time in Customer Support :)

Well good luck to you mate.

I was lucky - walked onto the degree without having to do a foundation or any pre-degree course due to experience I'd picked up in Africa/Bosnia. Pissed my mate off though who had to graduate a year after me :)

Good advice that.

I could have spent the last 4 years doing something interesting rather than passing my A-levels and failing Uni straight after, only to reapply to another (crapper) institution and find they couldn't care less about my A-level results.

Scary applying as a mature student though. Feel like I should walk into lectures with a pipe and tweed jacket :)

There was a fair few mature students on my course - the oldest being around 60 odd.

She passed.

At the end of the day, whatever your results there's always other things you can do / go onto.

Lower grades than predicted but enough to get on my first choice course so :D

3B's in chem, biol and psychology.... 3 marks short of an A in chemistry but shit happens :D

Computer Science... eek, looks kinda hard but hey, I stand a slim chance of getting a job afterwards... that's alot better than many other degrees!!

Bit of advice to the guys going to uni that are applying for funding from Student Loans company.. get all your paperwork in order as quickly as u can, and any changes to courses/uni's notify asap. That way they got a good few weeks to sort out the inevitable balls up that they will make :) Be aware most lonas/fees are paid about 3 weeks late, so don't rely on them being on time too much.

It sounds simple enough but you'd be suprised how many students are incapable of doing the above :)

GCSE's, A-Levels, Degrees - they mean absolutely fuck all.


The shame for me is that I'd passed 'em all before I realised it - I'd have finished paying for my house over 5 years ago rather than it not being paid off for another 3. (I'm 29) :(

I think to say they're all useless is a bit silly. To get anywhere these days you need SOME qualifications - I'd like to see someone get a decent job (I mean decent, mechanic doesnt count), without at least GCSE's.

And you certainly need a degree for the higher paid jobs (solicitor, barrister, doctor).

So to say that it's useless is wrong.

Yup, I'm doing one on and off. Had a two year break until things settled down out East but I'll be starting again next year. Bit of a pain though trying to allocate the time to study and then actually getting down to do it. Luckily I seem to have more spare time on my hands at the mo :)

I think it's really disgraceful how we get the same shite on the news every year:

"Record-breaking A-Level results have led to accusations that the exams are getting easier."

This is a terrible way to congratulate successful students on their hard work. I got my A-levels 6 years ago (BBCC) and the first thing I heard was that, in fact, I hadn't done well, just that the A-Levels had become so easy any pleb could get them.

And it really riles me up that Psychology, Media Studies (both of which I did) are seen as "soft" subjects. What a load of bull. I did A-Level Maths and English too and if anything they were easier than Psychology and Media.

So, if you got decent grades, don't let those scum get you down. Bloody well done, you've worked hard and you've got what you deserve.

Yeah it does start to piss you off when a bunch of twats in suits start spouting off that "we have reached the conclusion that A levels are much easier now..." especially after being fucked around so much with "new" systems that turned out to be shit... I was in the first year to get that shitty national curriculem thing, 1st year to sit sats, first year to sit AS levels (and what a huge farce they were) and being as I took a year out from sixth form due to illness only the second year to sit A2 exams...

In conclusion after being screwed around with so many new experimental systems and then to be told that "actually they're much easyer now so basically you're a bunch of dullards tbh tbh tbh" is extremely insulting.

school is infinitely better than some crap job though, and i expect uni will be too.
