Oh dear God...
Just been to see Spielberg's A.I. with the missus... If ever a film was twenty minutes too long, then this is it.
I won't post any spoilers here, though it'll be difficult. I thought the majority of the film was good. A human story about a little boy who just wants to be loved. A little sentimental maybe, but with some neat FX in it and good performances from the kid and Jude Law. Brought a little tear to my eye now and then.
There's a point where it should end. It's a perfect point, and if it had ended there it would have been a sad, touching film. Thing is it then goes on and on and on at a complete tangent.
This is a film which is entirely ruined by the last twenty minutes. Kills it dead. It seems that Spielberg couldn't rest until he had manipulated his beast until it reached a lovely, American ending.
And as a result... utter shite. It's a real shame.
If you go and see this film, then just walk out near the end when the narrator says '2000.' If you hear '2000' then just get up and leave. Save the rest of the film for when you see it again on video.
Trust me. It's better that way.
