It gets better, 2mbit is actually closer to 250kb/s.

You can also get a 4mbit service, but it's only available off-peak, and it's £80 a month. I don't know what you'd get on-peak, a restricted service? or nothing at all? :|

If it's just restricted to 256 both ways on peak, I'd find that acceptable I think.

Hmm, the 2mbit one on the same page is good as well.

Scratch that, it's central London only. :\

internet central's 2 meg service is available across the country all the time, which is great.

Once the race to get on the ISP is over and they provide a solid, reliable, uncapped (/looks at NTL llamas) service - i'll move in a flash for 2 meg for £45 fs.

"Technical support is reduced to an absolute minimum to enable us to keep the cost of this service so low."

"The contention ratio's quoted above of 20:1 and 50:1 mean that you share the speed purchased i.e. 512Kb/s with either 20 or 50 other subscribers hence the speed quoted is the maximum you could receive if the network was not busy."

No thanks

You'll never escape 50:1 contention on dsl - unless you pay for a business package and it's 20:1.

Even if you only get 50% of the bandwidth, that's still a 1 meg line on DSL for £45 a month.

As for tech support, what's that? for kids, noobs and daoc players ;)

Never found tech support much use anyway. Plenty of knowledgable people on IRC.

Still gonna wait a while and see how they cope though. Be shame to get locked into a contract only for them to get swamped with orders and go down the pan like the first unmetered ISPs did.

Given the price and the amount of bandwidth I expect something has to suffer. Be it crappy pings or lots of service outages or something. Got to expect the worst :p

I find it interesting that I get denied for every >512k adsl service I try on due to the distance from my exchange, given that I was actually part of the BT ADSL trial which was 2mbits.

Oh well, 512 will have to do.

This isn't the only 2mb service offered cheap recently, there was one by bulldog or something like that that offered a similar service. Perhaps adsl is finally getting somewhere.

Ahh, just not to my house. Because I'm too far from the exchange. Even though I've had it before. Yes.

Fuckers!
