I spy with my big fucking eye - solar panel stuff??

Yeah that is the 3.68kw inverter, had to take a load of pictures to sender the installer about the possibility of upgrading the system.

I have my house booked for cavity wall insulation for next week. When I was living with the ex-wife I had the house done and it made a difference in heating bills during cold spells. This is a government funded project so why not?

If you can, see if there's a local carbon collective that'd loan you an IR camera. Cavity insulation can be tricky to install because the mortar is very messy on the inside. Before and after IR images would show you what's really happening.

Diminishing returns. Once you get past 100mm or so, the more you put on, the less you get back. It really isn't worth it. I'd rather spend the money on other parts of the house that need improving, like the three external walls that I haven't insulated on the inside yet.

Also, I think it's better to insulate ground floor ceilings too. Not many people do that, but I did it in my back room downstairs and the difference is immediate.

What are you using to insualte inside without a) damp and b) losing too much thickness?

I've 3 external walls that are just fucking breeze-block thickness really (old extention). I'd like to insulate them, it'll have to be internal but the rooms are tiny.

PIR-backed insulation board. I think damp is only an issue if warm, moist air inside the house reaches the cold brick. That won't happen here because I've sealed it all up. I don't think damp from outside is an issue, I've never seen any.

I wouldn't worry about it affecting room size. I took a good inch of plaster off the wall and replaced it with 50-60mm "stuff". You can't really tell.

Knee-jerk?
So, the £44/mwh strike-price didn't attract investors this time around. It has previously, but not this time.

So increase it to £48? or £54? Maybe £60? Fucking £70??!

Methinks the government is setting an argument for the future so it can say "look look, isn't gas much cheaper than offshore wind!!"

Well done jury!

  • "You smashed £500,000's worth of HSBC's windows in london during a climate protest."
  • "Yep."
  • "You're guilty of criminal damage then."
  • "Nope. It's criminal to not do what we did. HSBC has been funding coal. 20,000 children a day displaced. It's madness."
  • "But you broke the windows."
  • "Yep."
Jury: "NOT GUILTY"

Fucking love humans sometimes :)

It's all very well and good but it's cheaper for the government to constantly fight in court that they're making the right steps. Then we have to take them back to court to prove that they're still talking shit. Then the government changes it's plan. Then we go back to court to show that the plan is shit. Then the government changes it's plan. Then we go back to court to show that the plan is shit. Then the government changes it's plan. Then we go back to court to show that the plan is shit. Then the government changes it's plan...

...peaceful protest or legal action solves DICK.

Why funny @Embattle?

from the beeb said:
the letter goes on to say the new Public Order Act which came into force in July "appears to be a direct attack on the right to the freedom of peaceful assembly"....

The letter sent in mid-August requested a reply within 60 days but has not received one, which the UN special rapporteur described as "troubling".

"Most countries take these letters seriously and respond," ... the lack of a formal reply reflected "a general disregard for human rights concerns by the current government"

3 years for scaling a bridge?

When you look at average custodial sentences for other offences

  • Criminal Damage and Arson - average 33 months
  • Fraud - average 26 months
  • Posession of Weapons - 12 months
  • Theft - 12 months

36 months for peaceful protest.

They should have just thrown a molotov cocktail through shell oil's window. It would give them a lot less time in clinky.

Ah. You don't like them, so it doesn't matter whether 'justice' is served - you're just happy they got a kicking.

Righto. Clocked.

I've done jury service, regardless of actual guilt I wouldn't ever find protesters like that guilty. Jury nullification is a good tool to have.

We've been over this subject many times before and neither yours or my view has changed.

They broke the law and ended up with something that is used in court against all types/classes of law braking from time to time, they were made an example of to others to deter them from the same stupid idea.

They broke the law
A new law brought in specifically to hand out stiffer sentences than you get for arson.

You're entitled to your opinion. End of.

However, the reason I'm pushing is that a recent post of yours illustrated something I've long thought about you - that you have a gap between law and justice in your thinking. That you see the law as the arbiter of right, rather than it being what it is - a tool to do a job. Sometimes a very bad job.

Topical addendum!

Your (and I'd argue the majority's) attitude to free speech and peaceful protest leads to this sort of thing:

People in the dock for shouting "Tory Scum".

It matters not that they were aquitted, it matters that there was prosecution in the first place.

You may hate peaceful protestors, but if you don't want to be a participant in bringing about a full on police state then you can hold on to your hate - but defend to the death their right to protest. Because one day protestors will inevitably be getting locked up for things you care about.

Excuse me @Scouse , but since when has this place been somewhere for people to receive unwanted mental thinking advice? Back off this one.

What a weird thing to say @Jupitus. That's exactly what this place, indeed discussion itself, is for, no?

Genuine curiosity - what is it about what I said that offends you so? You OK chum?

Singling out a single user to then analyse outside the context of the thread in question. I thought I told you not to bite?
