Impressed £67.5 billion... nope... 263 billion, and rising.

Astonishing. This graph tells it all really:

There are signs that what is already happening to Antarctica's ice sheets is in the worst-case scenario range of what was predicted

This reminds me of another story earlier this year about sea temperature - which produced this graph:

We really are completely fucked aren't we :(

All I feel I can do is minimise my own contribution. I'm already insulating the hell out of this house, heat pump will be next (Octopus have just announced their own heat pump) so once that's in the gas will be disconnected. I rarely use my car except for work (shopping trips are done by bike), not a lot else I can do. When my car dies I'll hopefully replace it with a Tesla and that'll see me through to retirement, beyond which I don't want a car.

But lets see what Starmer bothers re-instating eh?

Every aspect of what Rishi is saying, or going to say, is bollocks and making my piss boil.

How to piss car manufacturers off - keep moving the goalposts.

A lot of them will continue their process of going to mainly EV models no matter what Rishi says, plus Labour have also stated they remain committed to the 2030 target thus Rishi got what he really wanted is a wedge issue.

Lindsay Hoyle is spitting neutrons, quite rightly as well:

The heat pump grant has gone up, that's at least good news. I might get mine in within the next few months.

I think Octopus Energy state you need at least a D EPC rating, A being the highest and G the lowest, our house started out as B and due to the Solar would now be an A grade.

That whole article should be condensed to "you need well-insulated homes". Doesn't matter what you use to heat it. "you need well-insulated homes".

From the grauniad:

polling from Ipsos found the public were split over Sunak’s policy of a delay to net zero targets.

...of those who knew something about the policy, 47% felt the government was right, and 46% that it was wrong.

About 71% of 2019 Conservative voters who were polled and aware of the announcement said it was the right decision, compared with 24% of 2019 Labour voters

So 71% of conservative voters should be shot in the face on environmental grounds and probably the equivalent of Labour voters on social grounds.

What we do know is that the UK is one of the most supportive of environmental policies. So what does that say aboit the human race? :(

Just paid the £500 deposit for a heat pump installation with Octopus. Estimate, not sure about the radiators bit as I have expensive column radiators downstairs, although they're all quite big anyway.

Hopefully the survey goes well and I can ditch this old, leaking, noisy bearings unreliable Alpha boiler.

I don't, I suppose it will depend on what my house requires in terms of heat loss.

April install, apparently they're snowed under. Just had a smart meter fitted, during which the engineer made some upgrades to my supply (isolating switch). And they'll be in touch to book a survey in soon, I'm told. I am going to try to get the water cylinder placed in the loft, out of the way. And since the quote includes all required radiator upgrades, even additional ones, I'm not going to replace the radiator I chucked out of my bedroom during renovations - they can pay for it :D

I'm told part of the process is getting an EPC certificate for the house, which I don't have, and that I need 200mm insulation in my loft, but I only have maybe half the loft covered to 200mm. The rest is boarded, so that will be interesting to see what happens. And also they want any cavity walls insulating, I only have an 80's extension on the back with cavities, the rest of the house has none, so I might have to get that done. Can probably do it myself tbh, I have a vacuum that blows, I can do the bead thing myself.

I have my house booked for cavity wall insulation for next week. When I was living with the ex-wife I had the house done and it made a difference in heating bills during cold spells. This is a government funded project so why not?
