Erm, just wondering if the zerg situation isnt basically as follows.

Max level is 50, therefore over time the population of level 50's grows.

The number of prime RvR Zones is a constant.

Hence, As number of RvR people increases Zones get fuller, those easiest to get to, safest to play in full up to bursting point, until overflow for any play quailty forces people to other zones.

In July there were 30% of the number of level 50s rvr that there are now. Chances are if you define a zerg as 4FG, (32 players) thats no where near the number of level 50's on in anyone realm. I think last time i was online there was about 90 level 50's on out of 500 players. Presumably this is roughly constant for each realm. So at anyone time atleast 2 Prime RvR zones could have 'a zerg'...

Surely the issue is we need more places to play, that allow the kind of pitched skirmishes we seem to play? After all we have plenty of keeps we could take/defend. But how many keep takes happen per hour vs number of skirmishes per hour ?

I have seen 60 albs in emain, and 30 in sauvage, and 24 in odins. at the same time... Maybe we all need to try the following....

/who emain

60 players in emain...

Go somewhere else...

Ofcourse the only way to move the zerg, is to deny it the fight. Boredom beats zergs. If you are an alb and getting 'repeatedly' zerged by 5fgs of mids.. why go back? in plenty of other threads people have openly stated that they camp odins/yggdra/hadrians/sauvage.

Only a late night thought, for what they are worth

Remember there is 13 Frontier Zones, 17 next patch, we just need more incentives to go into the middle zones so to speak. I.e zones without PK's / BK's.

Why emain?

it's easy... Why should I spend 20+ minutes wandering over to Odins just to see if theres any action there, plus theres the high chance of getting killed and having to release, I'm a thane ... I die alot.

2fg of albs in emain
1fg of mids port in & get slaughtered
mids come back with 3fg
albs get slaughtered
albs come back with 4fg
mids get slaughtered
mids moan in IRC that albs are zerging
:m00: :m00:

And yes, Id love to RvR in mid/alb more, but if I did, solo cabalists don't last very long :(

lol this is totally the other way around, and if you know anything about emain then you should know your talking out of your backside, also mids AND albs moan at eachother orc irc, thats one of the few fun parts left in the game.

My points were

a) there are a lot more level 50s about, hence zerging will be more and more common

b) people will only start to move to other zones when the easy to get to zones are so intolerable that the playing experience is worthless and some hassle of travel to get decent play is rewarded.

c) There are not enough EASY to get to places for everyone where when you get to your destination, you can be assured of a reasonable experience.

In summary

If a zerg is 4FG or so, get used to it, as the server becomes more populated with level 50s 4fg vs 4fg will be the norm. It sucks ? Dunno, seen some awesome large scale battles.

What sucks is when a MASS of enemy camp a bottleneck, and the people on *your* side are too stupid to MASS an amount of allies to deal with it. Then complain that there 1FG got owned by the 4FG at the milegate. DUH.. the 4FG of allies that just lost that battle are waiting to port or res sick..... or re-grouping somewhere. EVERYONE ZERGS.

Sadly to conclude, the days of nice 8v8 battles, are gone. The arms race is at a different phase.. the challenges are either server wide social change. that is, we stop amassing in one or 2 zones and spread around the many other zones. Or alternativly tatical local change, i.e. We learn to accept and deal with mass battles and generate tactics to win.

Trying to adopt some server wide social rules (like queensburies rules in boxing) is just a waste of time. People will play where they want to play, the best you can hope for is that some sensible GMs, generate playing experience for there guilds, and others by 'strongly encouraging' and eventing to other zones. But speaking as GM of one of the much bemoaned about Albion Top 3, we dont dislike emain, we sometimes choose not to go there en-masse, however as we are building up in size during the night people tend to play there first.

Emain seems to be drfiting into a new phase, where atleast the albion and midgard forces are highly mobile, so if you are a late 2fg or so, you have a chance to get past the choke points into other zones. Last few times we tried odins, AMG was heavily camped, and after 3 ports and attemptes to break the 4 or so FG at amg we went to hadrians to getsome keeps back. What would have been nice was a group of Hibs or 3 showing up and breaking the camp up...Odins is easy for hibs to get to, isnt it? Infact we found a nice 2fg vs 2fg on the way to hadrians. Thanks mr mids, i dont recall your names, but i appreciate you were out to play..

I guess my final point is rvr is brutal war, dont expect the enemy to NOT camp a choke point and try to get cheap rp's of you. If you are camping a choke point, and are sat complaining that no enemy is comming. Look around at the 30 people sat there, and think if i was the enemy would i come back to be slaughtered.. enrich your own playing experience and go somewhere else. You want to fight hibbies, save em the walk its not far to the gate... and in the time you are gone, maybe the mids will have a chance to re-muster. Maybe you might try another zone....

If you want a guaranteed scrap, Take Blede. Its like ringing the doorbell.....

Another wordcount munching post. Get the coffee out :D

If the zer... um armies on each size are roughly evenly matched Emain is great fun because epic scale battles are just about the best fun you can get. The problems occur when one side massively outweighs the other which is what usually happens. Offpeak Emain is great fun, even despite the number of infil and SB bully squads hanging around like dogs looking for a leg to hump :D

Something I've been meaning to mention for a while now:

There seems to be a lot of hostillity to people that play in Emain a lot most especially because when there is a call to arms when our relics are under attack that they have the reputation of not coming to the aid of the realm or when we organise some big event they don't leave their favourite rp areas.

It's also been pointed out that one of the main reasons is that these players like to play in Emain and that day in day out they don't exactly get the support of their respective realms so feel why the hell should they give up playing in their favourite area for people that don't particularly bother about them.

This is a game, nothing else, and if people like to play in Emain, they are perfectly entitled to and part of having team spirit is to support each other: guess what, that includes those that go to Emain. People that ask who has the Emain CG on AC in the past have been derided for this and I have to plead guilty to the odd acerbic comment myself (it does however get annoying when 3 or 4 posts on ac in a row are this - people should still do /who Emain and then PM people first before asking on AC). Emain is a valid RvR area just like any other and people who want to play there should have the support of their buddies rather than getting griefed over it all the time.

It was suggested that if you want someone to help you when you need something, you have a better chance of getting that help if you've supported them. I agree with this.

So...

The last couple of weeks I've started going to Emain regularly for the first time since I started playing this game in February. I've had a lot of fun, so its not all for other's benefit but I've posted on AC and GU that I was putting together groups and stuff and off we've gone and I've started getting people to proactively say on AC the holder of the Emain CG so peeps don't need to ask all the time.

If the Alb zerg reaches 4-5FG then I simply do something else for a while, not really a problem. Nobody should ever slavishly do the same thing over and over again, its too dull.

I still like Sauvage the best, but it is a hike and you need a little patience to wait for the Albs to show up.

Seriously, I try spending 50% of my time in hadrian/odin or somewhere nearby.... but theres never anyone there!
Ive spent hours camping legionare to spot if anyone passes.. ive spent hours at mmg in hadrian as well... I havent seen an alb in odin since november... and then it was a green con.

Whats up with that? Its nothing wrong with hib, we are often spread out in odin/emain/hadrian... mostly odin/emain though. but still... where does all the albs/mids go? Theres easy rp and fun fights walking around in odin/hadrian and you camping mgs in emain? Give it a break...
