But interesting non the less.....

Also brings back the subject of are your "Virtual player's and equiptment" yours or the property of the gaming company.

It also shows how serious some countries take "in-game" crime, to have a section of their police force dealing with it.

Also in the future where will this lead...........

In massives it's rather easy, the companies that make/provide service, own everything. Your name, equipment, your house, your skillpoint location rights....everything related to their game. Hell, even fanart is considered theirs, even if not written in stone.

You got NOTHING in game.

The story might be old, but his sentence was only pronounced yesterday....

and Tohtori, even if the companies do own everything, that doesn't stop people selling stuff to each other (and therefore breaching the CoC). As soon as you start involving real money you run the risk of someone getting scammed and deciding to take justice into their own hands (regardless of whether the objects sold are theirs or not).

What matters is that the person who lost the sword believed that it was his (even though legally it wasn't) and decided to punish the person who sold it.

Seriously sad but it was obvious one day something like this would happen.

More interesting were the figures from e-bay $9 Million of trade of virtual money and artifacts :) and that was in 2003

With Sony's change of tack with regard to selling of virtual produce - it's gonna get big - now doubt see big money to be had :)

i beleive there is actually a mmorpg i think its called entropia where you dont have things like ingame money you instead actually buy everything with your own money.

Like 5$ or so for a set of armour. Quite an interesting idea although i could see problems :)

anyways interesting story its like the people who played solid for like 7 days then keeled over and died should be a link on the website somewhere :)

not quite.

The game is called Project Entropia and you do have money in it. It's just you can convert real money into in-game money and more importantly, in-game money into real money. Haven't heard of anyone being killed because of playing this game but did read a news article some time ago where someone sold an island ingame for some stupid amount of real cash. Here's the link in fact:
