im gonna have to get meself one of those firewall thingys i presume but which one should i get and where from also how does it work cheers.

you can put the filter anywhere before a device is put in.

I have my 10 metre extenstion cable coming to the pc
and then the filter and then the adsl modem + phone on meh desk go into the filter.

The above. I used to run my PC through an NT box that a friend set up, but it was a bit of a pain tbh.

Just use zonealarm, get a virus checker like norton (and update every week), and you'll be fine. You're not exactly carrying national secrets are you?
