After not looking after my teeth in the slightest for a good couple of years I went to the Dentist today and got an estimate on "being able to smile again". Included on the list of things to do are:

1 incisal angle UR2
1 pin/screw retainer UR2
1 root filling UR2
1 opening root canal UR2
1 type 1 pulp extirpation UR2

That's not all of it, that's just the more vicious sounding members of the list. The others I can just about get to grips but what the fuck is a type 1 pulp extirpation? UR2 is blatantly the most fucked of my teeth and being headbutted by a puppy the other day didn't help matters (cracked the tooth right across the back). Although perhaps it did make me realise just how bad the situation has become. Anyway, I have an estimate of £160 for the whole job, and if it lets me smile without subconsciously covering my teeth with my lip then it's well worth doing. I'm looking forward to having respectable looking teeth again!

I've never known a puppy to headbutt someone, you sure it wasn't you who headbutted the puppy?

It was a joint effort. I swear he has it in for me though. :(

Thanks Laz, reading the linkage. Sounds like fun! :)

Don't worry. They'll give you plenty of drugs to mess your head up.

At least, they should :)

I know a dentist who asks you if you want sedation.
You think he is kidding so you go: Naaaaaaaah, I'm a real man!!
Next thing you know he's drilling a hole in your tooth and you are screaming like a girl.....

hehe a friend had a huge phobia of needles and so told the dentist not to give him anesthetic when having a filling. Drilled tooth = ouchy.

Funnily enough he now always gets an injection....twice to be safe.

£160 ? I spent over £300 on a simple crown a few years ago.

i went to the dentist in cyprus in December last year for an emergency root canal. it only cost about £25GBP and she told me as soon as i get home i will have to get it finished. so i went to the dentist, got a checkup and needed 3 more fillings . i just got one of them today and the waiting list is silly, ive had to wait 1 month between appointments. by the time my root canal treatment is finished, it will of taken 8 months from the first visit.

by the way, root canal treatment isnt as bad as people make it out to be. it does take about 40 minutes to clean the canals out completley but its not as if it hurts, unless there is a little bit of nerve left then you nearly have a heart attack when it gets drilled out.

Six hours after the dentist appointment, the cracked tooth fell out completely (so now I have a weird gap in my teeth that's taking some getting used to). Someone at work said I should get a gold cap put in it but I can't stand gold jewelry. I was thinking of silver or titanium maybe... Anyone know anything about metal caps? How much they cost, how far you have to go to get one put in etc... If it's a lot of money then I won't bother, it's just something I wouldn't mind doing and now seems as good an opportunity as any. :)

callous, you can get a synthetic tooth "implanted"

I have one already - it involves sinking a "post" into the root you already have and mounting a synthetic tooth on to that. They take an imprint of your teeth and then make the synthetic tooth up from that.

Ah but y'see, the root on this particular tooth is, as my dentist colourfully pointed out, "fucked". He's gonna have to take the root out and then setup an army of tiny fairys in my mouth to build a new tooth out of fairy spit or something... I wasn't paying as much attention as I should've been. :(

he will drill out the pulp and the nerves with a 1 inch drill bit thats mere centimeters from your brain. the actual tooth bit of the root stays there otherwise your tooth would fall out!

and for the love of god dont even close your mouth a milimeter because anything could happen. my mouth kept closing its self because it had been open for 30 minutes and the dentist had to retract the drill very quickly each time

Just went to the dentist for my first bit of surgery. When I went the first time the lovely lady at reception said I'd be able to pay for it as I went along and that it'd cost £160.

I came out today (mouth numb, dribbling and unable to string words together in the correct order) and went to book my next appointment. This fat heffer with dinner lady arms told me that they wouldn't proceed with surgery unless I paid the full amount today and that the price had gone up to £205.56.

I tried to argue, honestly I did, but it's difficult when you can't feel half of your face. So I told them that they couldn't just change their minds and that I couldn't afford to pay for it all in one go and we settled on a compromise of me going in tomorrow and paying for what I've had done so far. The attitude of the bitch in reception pissed me off, as if I was going to do a runner with only an eighth of the work done. She was patronising and rude and arrogant and... dinner lady arms. :\

Sounds like remove most of the tooth including all the nerves, replace with a cap/crown.
I had that on a tooth years ago, won't hurt once the nerves have been removed :)
