X-Box price will be reduced from April 26th to £199, with the GC launch the following week, it may be as cheap as £185.

Existing X-box owners get 2 free games & a controller., upon the reciept.

Things must be really bad, if they are re-imbursing existing owners, this price can't have been part of the gameplan.

Still not getting one, don't get any game for a start, prolly wait after the GC launch when all 3 will be on the shelves, then decide.

You getting one?

Whats a controller S, coming out soon for X-BOX ?

i think the controller s is a smaller version of the xbox pad as M$ have realised that us europeans are not as fat and big as our american counterparts. I quite liked the pad mind.
And no i would not touch the x-box with a 10 foot barge pole not at the moment anyway. I want a GC

Personally I think it's damn nice of M$ to give me 2 games and a pad. Didn't see Sony doing that when they dropped prices :)

(Yes, I know they weren't as desperate but that aint my problem is it.)

Pad is crap

Personally, the x-box pad is the most uncool part of the x-box, it just looks rank :p

ok, it'not as bad as it looks to hold, but compared to the game cube pad it looks ugly,

well...

the playstation 2 dropped in price a full year after it was released.... not barely more than 4 weeks.

lets be honest, Microsoft had to do some sort of compensation offer like that, there would be blue murder if they didn't...

and yesterday, i saw a gamecube adapter that let you use a PS2 pad on the gamecube... i'm not sure WHY someone would want to do this.... but if you can get one to do that, then surely someone's going to realise that there's money to be made in letting people use alternative pads to that xbox monstrosity.

I already said it's none of my business how well M$ are doing, I don't care. Point is I get 2 games and a pad plus my console for 300 squid. My PS2 cost 300 for the console alone. I'm happy.

Although Perfect Dark 2 looks good but FPS games on consoles don't work, didn't even think goldeneye was that special.

well

Goldeneye is sheer quality... i sooo wish i hadn't sold my N64, goldeneye, zelda, mario and jet force gemini now... it's like Urggh Mistake. as big a mistake as getting rid of my megadrive, with gunstar heroes :(

Halo as a console FPS, sans kb & mouse works. it's quality.

and i think we'll continue to see some more top notch stuff like that. Halo 2 anyone?

oh yeah, if your prepared to fork out for a kb/mouse for your console then i'm sure it's great but i can't help thinking you might aswell just play your pc then.

Why? What did you think was wrong with it? Instead of just childishly putting it down, let's hear what you can actually fault it on.

The specs of the Xbox Graphics chip is actually better than the GF3. Has 2 Vertex Shaders for a start.

Depends what you want from an fps. Goldeneye wasn't a shoot 'em up, it was a fucking class game with cool weapons (including an excellent sniper rifle), great maps and (vaguely) intelligent enemies. You finish the game on all 3 difficulties (something I actually wanted to do with this game) and you unlock the last one, where you could decide how difficult to make the game. That was a stroke of genius. And the fact that they managed to squeeze all of this into 16mb makes it even more impressive imo.

But, like I said, it depends what you want from an fps. If none of the above interests you, then stick to "Quake and Quake 2 ".

Plus the way they made you actually EARN the cheat modes, and NOT use them to complete the game in the first place was fecking l33t.

I am proud to say I've completed Goldeneye totally, all cheats all everything :D

And that isnt easy ;)

I also hold the UK's best time for the Facility cheat (Invulnerability) afaik :)

At least, no one in ONM beat my time :)

If only the PC FPS' took a leaf out of goldeneyes book as far as cheat modes go....

Making people unable to cheat on levels unless they did them normally in the first place, and making people have to do tasks to unlock the cheat modes...

Rather than typing god and impulse 9 in as they spawn in quake and 0wning the game with little effort, and bragging about it ;)

The sniper rifle was just plain silly. The maps were pretty dire. The weapons were boring. The enemies were fucksticks, they run round in circles ffs. I found the controls really irksome, but then again, I've never been good at using a N64 pad.

They managed to fit Pong into less than 16mb, 'nuff said.

i could never manage to beat that fucking time to get that cheat up - wern't it something like 2:05 mins? was there a way of doing it easier? cos i always found that guy u had to pick the decoder up off used to spawn in a couple of different places...

Heh, that cheat was a complete whore to get... Took sooo many attempts to get it. And yes, he does spawn in 1 of 4 or 5 (iirc) places, so you could shoot through the first half of the level in a blaze of fire, and then find him in the wrong place, which means you wouldn't be able to get the cheat.
