50/50 eh? Nice scaremongering :p

"Today's tremors seem to be normal tectonic activity, and is "not an indication" that some sort of volcanic activity will occur."

Not to mention yellowstones own site;

YELLOWSTONE VOLCANO (CAVW #1205-01-)
44°25'48" N 110°40'12" W, Summit Elevation 9203 ft (2805 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: NORMAL
Current Aviation Color Code: GREEN

I think these kinds of swarms indicate the movement of lava - it doesnt mean an imminent eruption but it shows the volcano is definately active.

Well, it might be true but if something IS going down there then you can bet that the US government will step in and try to reduce any eventual panic attacks. So i'm not sure if i actually want to believe them :)

I mean, if yellowstone erupts then USA is done for. And you don't let ppl believe something like that without absolute proof.

I don't trust that "50/50" either mind you, but it is slightly worrying when you look at how much yellowstone has risen over the last few years and compare it to how slow it normally is.

And no Moriath it wouldn't be cool to see it blow up, i like my summers and don't want permanent winter for the next few hundred years ;)

Yeah, i know how it seems, but it's funny how low that number actually is :D

I mean, 870 is the record back in 90s.

But agree on one thing atleast; if it's going to blow, we most likely wouldn't hear about it as a 20 state panic isn't healthy.

I dont think so but it would be a massive disruption to say the least. If you could evacuate everyone out of the affected area you could return once the ash had settled and use earth movers to shift it.

Many buildings would probably be lost outside the big cities but at least the ash makes decent soil. It would be like the Montserrat disaster recovery but on an un-imaginably larger scale.

I do remember watching something ages ago, about a group of people that live near a active volcano, and every time it erupted, they ran away, and came back, rebuilt their homes, and they asked for money to help them do so, and it was explaining why the people lived here, they had done so for ages or so.. Why don't people just move away from the volanco's, you can still bloody cultivate the land around it, you just don't need to put your house that close.

tbh

I wouldn't mind but they always put their hand out asking for governments money to help rebuild, no, it's just silly, don't do it if you KNOW that you're gonna get damaged again.

The worst waste is people who live on eroding coasts - they must have realised it was eroding when they bought it so why complain when the sea eats their house?

Yeah too right - It's like building a sandcastle on the beach, doesn't matter how big you make it, the sea will eventually take it - Why the Government is spending so much money on 'sea defences' I don't know why, just spend that money to re-locate people, if we carry on this way, we may aswell just have big walls around the Country.

The other problem is when you build a wall the beach gets narrower as the deflected waves carry the material - you end up with very narrow steeply angled seashore.

And also, the wall will get taller and taller and as the water level gets higher and higher, increasing pressure, then the wall breaks, destroying the country, good times.
