Ok, used Quake, II, III, R3A, Quakeworld etc. Tried various dial up isp - freeserve (unmetered currently), jolt, claranet, zoom, ic24, etc. Using 400 mhz celeron /64mb /4gb /intel(yuk) 2 agp, and onboard 56 k modem. Connect speed is usually alleged 44 kbps. Dial up connection (no LAN) in Norfolk, Eng. So why is my ping so f'n HIGH! ie. 600 - 999+? Rocket 3 Arena is unplayable. Is it my locality? Am I missing something obvious? Please someone put me out of my misery.
Paul :-( cheers

i will say it first
is it a win modem
LOL :) on board like on the mobo ?

if it's a real modem
is your packet size set to small
it's in control panel network something
but anyway you should get a lower ping without changing this.
get a shot of an external modem
or an isa modem.
anybody had any luck with the new
pci hardware modems.
could be loads of things.

Yup, any chance you could borrow someones external modem to test if its your internal one? Is the internal one on the mobo or a sep card, and if so which one...might help us a bit.
