Not quite true, at the time of Star Wars Episode IV, Mr Lucas was a bit of a prude and didn't want anyone to look sexy in his movies, this was 1977 after all, he requested Fisher wear a tight top and unshapely dress, the hair buns were also part of it.

By Episode VI he'd changed a bit.
