Was just wandering if anyone has a link for the post SP1 updates that i could just dump on a disc to save downloading twice as i am reinstalling my network.

Or is it a case of grabbing them from the C:\WUTemp folder before i reboot it?

Thanks in advance

Im not entirely sure what your looking for Doom.

If you click on Jonty's Utility thread and scroll to the bottom, you can download the full network install.

Cant you just burn this onto a disc and use it on all your PC's?

Must have missed it, thanks wilier, its called 1a, does this include all the updates up till now?

Reason i ask is that my xp disc already comes with sp1 and there are several updates after that, about 80 megs in total iirc

That file looks awfully similar to the very first SP1 file i got and is only sp1, there are updates called sp2 in add/remove programs if you see what i mean

Hi CptDoom

Basically, SP1a is just a slightly updated version of SP1: it doesn't contain any of the major updates since SP1 was released. If you want these updates, you really have three options (though I'm not sure about the success of these).

  1. Run WindowsUpdate and take note of the updates available. Most of these should be available to download as seperate executables from Microsoft (bare in mind this idea isn't recommended, since it'll take ages ;))
  2. Visit some of the Windows and software enthusiast sites (NeoWin, perhaps) and search for SP2. This is only in the internal beta stages, but has been leaked. The package basically contains all the SP2 updates released thus far. However, this is a beta package, so I don't really recommend using it unless you're happy to use such leaked software.
  3. Try your idea of copying the folders and executables in the temporary WindowsUpdate directory and transfering and executing them on your new installs. That said, I have no idea whether this will work.
Personally, annoying as it is, none of the options above are great. Forced to choose, I'd maybe try option three, but to be honest, it may be less hassle to just run WindowsUpdate twice. Alternatively, if you network is completely closed to the outside world (i.e. no Internet connection) then you could just add SP1 and wait until SP2 is officially released later this year.

Sorry I can't be of more help :(

Hi CptDoom/Xtro

Would you mind chatting about whatever you're talking about via PMs/e-mail etc.? I've deleted your posts just to keep things tidy and understandable, not out of spite.

Thanks guys
