The forthcoming XP Service Pack is aparently going to allow proper selection of browser, media player, mail client and removal of MSN messager to comply with court rulings.

The patch is rumoured to be about 40 meg and contains a load of .NET releated crap too :D

Good news methinks. Although Mozilla has forced its way onto the browser list anyway :D

One thing I read said it would hide the icons...technically they would still be on the PC.

The remour is the SP1 pack will block XP that uses one popular key that became available and it'll just freeze the system, in the sense you won't be able to get any updates etc.

I think this is a case of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted, since there is a working keygen for XP that can create about 10-15 working serial numbers overnight.

//Edit Not that I would use XP myself, of course, I'm just well informed

What does that mean exactly.?

Is it going to stop D/L'd copies working if they install the patch, or what.

Just curious.

The current theory is that the downloaded copies (I think the key might belong to Dell, I could be wrong) will be frozen out of the Windows Update Process.

//Edit - Just like Embattle said further up. Stop digging up old posts and I won't look so silly.

No Matter what the morons at Microsoft do there will always be someone who will find a way around their security features...
