A) That's not the 0.13 micron P4

B) If you wanna play 'comparisons' have a gander at:

AMD Athlon XP 1700 (1.47 GHz) Palomino Core 151.17 177.62
AMD Athlon XP 1800 (1.53GHz) Palomino Core 198.18 232.86

* S478 * 1.7 GHz Intel P4 CPU 162.00 190.35
* S478 * 1.8 GHz Intel P4 CPU 208.00 244.40

Hmmm, 12 quid diff, for a superior quality product - certainly won't break my bank - keep your superclocked athlon core and via chipset thanks ;)

A) There is no .13 micron part at the moment. Not till January.

B) Since an XP 1800 outperforms a P4 2gig which costs 300 quid more that would be a more fair comparison and the winner would seem more obvious. Don't think I'll consider P4 till Northwood now thx :)

It says in that article that the XP will work on a KT133A chipset. So does that mean my ickle Abit KT7A will be able to support it, assuming they bring out the relevant BIOS upgrade?

Exactly ;) 95% ofsites out there are obsessed with one manufacturer or the other, meaning the selection of tests and conduct of said tests are biased towards that manufacturers strengths

Since when facts even gotten in the way of one of your wholly impartial, level-headed "Athlon vs Intel" "discussions" Perp? :)

I haven't seen a site that said the P4 was faster yet but I suppose they're all biased :)

Like I say, maybe when Northwood comes out it will be overclockable enough to make it better value if you do. At the moment unless your heatsink is prone to falling off I'd say the Athlon was better :D

The 1.33, 1.4 and 1.53GHz Athlon MPs are priced at $180, $210 and $302, respectively, and their model numbers are 1500+, 1600+ and 1800+. ®

can't be arsed to convert to squid :)

Yup. I too have a KT7A-RAID (our systems seem strangely similar, Kenny :/) and you can download the BIOS update to allow an Athlon XP to work.

Brilliant. After reaching 1.4 gigs on my Athlon AXIA 1gig I thought I'd maxed out the MB.

In terms of my system it stands at the following...

KT7A Motherboard
256 Megs Crucial PC100 @ 133
Athlon Axia Y 1 gig @ 1.4gig
Elsa Galdiac 511 @ 180mhz (GF2 MX-400 64 Meg TV-Out)
GlobalWin 804(?) Case with two extra 80 mm YS-Tech Fans passing air through.
ThermoEngine cooler with 80 MM YS-Tech fan
300 Watt Enermax (?) power supply
Outtake fan in a slot below video Card
20 gig IBM UDMA 100 HDD
6 gig piddly udma 33 HDD
19" Taxan Ergovision 975 TCO95 @ 1600 / 75hz
MS Intelimouse Intellieye
Logitech Deluxe Keboard
MS Sidewinder Pro
Gravis Gamepad (4 buttoned one. :) )
Toshiba CD-R/RW/ DVD SD-R1002 24/4/4/4

Erm..that's it. Prolly the first and last time I do a complete spec listing like that. Prolly the last time I'll change anything for quite a while since I've just found out my bosses were paying me too much. I don't have to pay back the difference, I just have to survive on 120 quid a month less. :( Muppets.

I did have mine doing 1.4 Ghz but the noise was pissing me off so its back to its bog standard 1.2Ghz.

there was one in the pic iirc, but if it actually gets sold as part of the package remains to be seen heh.
anyhoo, I find it priced lower than I expected and if there's a monitor included [however dubious the quality of it may be ;)] then it may well be a good deal

I've got about 500 guilders in a drawer upstairs. Make up the difference for me and I'll have one :D
