Xp or vista?!

Ok so i got a new pc comming up and i was wondering, should I install XP, or VISTA?

pls state why

Both work in "general use".

Some say vista uses more juice, but if the machine is top, it's not even barely noticeable.

Ofcourse vista supports the, what was it...well better graphics thingy

I like the "customisation" and more future feel of vista (like layered windows of alt+tab, gemlike buttons etc) and i haven't had any trouble with either.

If had to choose, i'd say i like vista better. It just seems the "future of...".

Kinda like, XP vs 98 or something.

But since you put dos as an option, my vote goes there

High end rig for gaming go Vista for DX10 and general better looks ect.

Mid low end machine for web browsing ect go XP no need to take the performance hit of running Vista unless you think Looks > All

Or wait for the new Windows released late this year early next.

Never get problems/blue screens with it so I would say it's more stable.

I had one bluescreen on vista, but it all cleared like a bad case of herpes with a system restore

Seriously though - then Vista x64 have run incredible stable on my rig for about 1½ year. No blue screens and only a couple of forced reboots when specific games crashed too hard.

If you're pushing 4GB memory (internal + videocard) then get x64.
If you're at about 2GB and planning to push 4GB in the future, get x64.
If you're content with 2GB and don't see yourself upgrading, get x32.

Ultimate isn't really worth it, unless you have a domain server and shit, so get Vista Home Premium. Saves you a few bucks so you can get that 4GB internal

I dont know, I am set in my ways, and I like XP at the moment so I will stay with that until I do another rebuild I think.

I don't like all the sneaky back door things that microsoft brought in with Vista, all the stuff to do with file management which means that they can make it you can't access your own files (happened to my friend, he's a professional photographer, but it wouldn't let him access any of his 40,000 photos). I'd say that most of what people think is good about vista (ie graphics) is more gimmicky, while stuff like stability on anything but new machines leaves a lot to be desired (and I don't even like the new look of vista, but that's just personal preference). I'm voting xp with this one.

Ahh yes - Microsoft have nothing better to do then lock a friend of yours images. "Back door things" locking images, sure......

Vista, i love it now, SP1 is out and things are fine for the normal average user.

If your into programming and shit then it may be a different story, but vista is good IMO

I got a new pc with Vista on the other week, thought I'd see how I got on with it and would reinstall XP over the top if it was naff.

Well, I like it, quick, stable, some nice little touches. you need a good pc for it to run well but I'd recommend it.
