I´ve got a laptop here at work that is running XP, I need for ALL users to have the XP look like a Win2k when they log in (I know how to do it on one user, but how do I go about doing it on them all at once?)

u have to do it manually on each user i believe, not much of a challenge as its just right click on the desktop then on the task bar :p

make a txt document and put it in everyones startup file telling them how to change it :p

then tell them to delete the txt document after

or u can save the modified theme then tell them all to select that theme, just save it where they can access it.

its right click on the desktop and properties then save the theme

Addlcove,

If you still stuck for answer, try www.windowsbbs.com

that place is full of techies gagging to help anyone!!

And, off the top of my head, I'd have to go with the individual user as well. Unless theres an option to ''Use this theme for all users'' when logged in as admin.

I know that option is available for network conns and dial-up conns in XP, but never looked for themes or customising desktops, sorry...

Sounds like the sort of thing you'd do with the Group Policy tool (gpedit.msc). Of course all your users would have to be members of the group(s) you set the policy for.

Group Policy is only available in XP Pro btw.

cadire nice try but the problem is the laptop is part of a domain, and thus everytime someone logs on it´s a new user on the laptop so we can´t use local group policies

I'm sure you can set the dafault for new users in the local policies.

yes but when we´re on a domain they aren´t created as users on the computer when they log in the first time!

and we only know the department head not the actual employee that is gonna use the laptop (they are for sharing so creating 20 users in advance would be a drag if there was an easiere way to go about it

Do a login script that performs specific command for a given global group over your domain, and put those secretaries in this group.

gladly, what command are the ones to be issued for turning off all the fancy stuff in XP?

i take it your the support guy for your work place else you would of course be asking the support team to do this for you ;)

a logon script is prolly best, as any local group policies should over-ride global policies set from the domain. you could try looking for a simple kix script to do this for you.

try the scripts section here to get you started:

http://www.kixtart.org

however i would personally say speak to your domain admins before implementing this, or if your the dom admin then ensure some testing first ;)

This is the reply I got from CiX

It's done roughly like this:

Create a user account called say Standard

Login as Standard

Set up the desktop etc & icons & internet access as you want the default
to be.

Open the System Control panel & find Profiles.

Use the tools there to copy the profile of Standard to "Default User"
and make it available to everyone.

Don't just try copying the profile on the server with Windows Explorer,
that seems to get the permissions all wrong.

As I don't have access to a domain, I have no idea if it'll work :)
