Some one please help me out im tearing me hair out. Im trying to sort the voice thing on cs.Since I got xp it hasn't worked at all, and its doing my head in. Ive tried adding +voice_dsound 1 to the command line but it still dont work. In fact the test on HL says my hardware cannot play sounds, which is a little odd as I have an SB audigy FF40 system, which i am told is quite good.
Some one help Im gonig mad ! Thanks :)

hi, I don't have xp or much knowledge of it but bear with me, I'm trying to help, could it have anything to do with needing to run it in win 98/2000 compatability mode?? that is the current extent of my knowledge about xp hope it helps. If not I'm sure some1 will be along with the answer.

Have a pleasent evening :)

Throd, no help I know, but Ive got XP, and voice works fine.:)

Is voice enabled in your CS configuration (sound settings) within the menu screens?

i had this problem for a while, i was kicking myself for a bit tho once i figured it out :)

WinXP pro seems to "disable" the mic socket on your sound card until you run Voice recognition, once its been ran you can close down the language bar that crops up and your mic works :D

well, thats how I fixed mine.. even though its not used :p

Throddy did you add the d_sound +1 to the CS shortcut?I mean you know the icon you click on to start CS(in my case in the quick start bar)well you have to add it to the shortcut in there so it would be C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -game cstriked_sound +1 try that mate, dont worry though b00b will sort ya out eventually:)

Aha Im getting somewhere it seems. Turns out my copy of XP doesnt have mic enabled for some reason :( Apparently when you go to voice in control panel there will be a tab for voice recognition, if its not there its not installed. Ok, no problem. The help thing tells you how to install it, using office 2002. Which I havent got.... great.
There must be another way of installing voice recognition, Ive just got to find out what ...

The problem is your audigy/directx

go into dxdiag and then set the hardware acceleration of the sound card to basic. Then reboot. Set up your sound config in cs, then up the acceleration again.

It worked for me.

A flash of an idea means I may know what the problem is, I'll try it out tonight. Naturally, this will only fix the no-mic-at-all problem, i expect I'll fix that, go online and speak , and there'l just be a noise, like Ive heard with others on XP. Never mind, one step at a time (sweet jesus).

Just thought I'd say this though it's completely off topic.

Woohoo.

I have a mic.

You can all listen to me now when we're playing.

Hehe voice comms are very very good in clan games imo, tho of limited use in pubbys. After all, you just have to listen to people blahing on half the time. Oh well thats what the mute button is for :)

thats a standard windoze feature after a fresh install

1st thing to look for when u have voice comms problems :D its not the playback, its the record that needs to be ticked

BTW - works fine in my version of XP (after several weeks of trying to find the enable mic record tick box :p)

been ill,
first flu then a gum infection, then a viral stomach infection - threw up while out shopping in Tesco's :D - then had my 30th birthday.

kinda not had time to play CS online although I have been to a few LANS and played some CS.

I think my short lived CS career maybe over. I installed Tony hawkes 3 last night!
I gave up skating when I was 16, now I can skate again at 30 and it doesnt hurt! :D well apart from the odd bit of eye strain from looking at the monitor so long without blinking.

Gnarly Dudes!

plus earlier in the week i installed jedi Knight 2, while the single player game is pants, the "Lightsaber" only multiplayer is a scream!

stuck in work now (i really need to get a 9 - 5 job!!!) and itching to play TH 3 :(
