Anyone used Xfire?
I'm guessing its an instant messenger/server browser/buddy list hybrid and certainly looks like a good idea to me at least.
Wondering if anyone here has actually used it though, and what they thought of it....
its all their own back-end, so theres no way you can talk to your mates on MSn while playing.. they all need to be on the xfire network..
thats the main reason it was uninstalled within 5 minutes, i really cant be bothered trying to make all my friends move from MSn to some 3rd party software...
that and the front end is as ugly as hell and reminds me of that accursed AOL instant messenger.
Dunno if it has changed much in the 1.5 years since this thread was made but I've found it to be a quality program. It's skinnable, has a reasonably small footprint and you don't need to know many friends that use it because you can see the friends of your friends that are online which makes me feel popular.
It tells you what games your contacts are playing, what server they're on and their teamspeak server if they're using that. Also allows for fairly unobtrusive messaging while in game, you get a little popup window and can hit ScrLk-X to reply. I don't use the server browser but it can't be much worse than the shite that is built into most games.
Only complaint is that the voice chat option broke my microphone until I reinstalled xfire but then it does say beta where you enable it. I think this program is the best gaming tool since the original GameSpy back when it was good.
