Best thing I can think of:

Instead of paying for a subscription via credit card, instead cancel it and use the vouchers and remove the credit card from the account.

Voila, no more buying MS Points unless the little kid goes to game and buys them himself.

Content: Last but not least, the Content controls help you set limits on the kind of downloadable goodies your kids can access. You can choose to allow access to Xbox Live for downloadable game updates, demos, and other for-fee content, as well as downloadable member-created content from other Xbox Live users. Here Family Settings act as a filter for what kids can or can't download onto the Xbox 360 console.

Yup, just like MMOs.

Xbox live subscription

Xbox live points

Ch3tans idea might work, I've never looked at the parental settings, so it might be the better choice, but sometimes the amazon stuff is cheaper than buying it full price from MS.

Set up electro-shock feedback into the controller so that when he tries to spend points he gets zapped. If he can tolerate increasing shocks as he spends he deserves the downloads.

Everyone wins.

Most annoying feature of using a credit-card is that you have to call the Xbox support line in order to switch off auto-renewal, so after the year was up, and I had a new credit card by then, it was trying to auto-renew.

Ended up just letting them try to auto-renew till they gave up and removed access to my account, and then just reactivated it with the subcard I got for free when I sent my xbox in for RROD repair.

Going on holiday in a couple of weeks, when I come back I'm just going to buy a year subcard from somewhere, where I know it'll be cheaper and I won't have to pay to call them to edit my own account.

Score!

Password is pointless, the little shit will clearly just bitch and moan until she caves and types in the password (actually i'd even guess she'll have to him the password so he can type it in unless she's l33t with the 360 controller).

Tell her to be a fucking adult and deal with her child.

It is not my fault you can't convince your other half to deal with the real problem.

I stand by what I said, the password won't work. It's just a speed bump on the road of spending cash, it doesn't close spend street off.

Oh and whilst I'm here, Microsoft are shit for removing card information. Mine only eventually came off my live account not because I cancelled the subscription, not because I'd asked them 10 times to remove it but because the card expired.

It's actually easier to cancel your card and request a new one from your bank, than get MS to change or remove default card info.

what real problem? you obviously know the child and my gf pretty well to assume theres a problem

hes 10 he thinks money grows on trees like most children do. i asked for ways to intervene and stop him downloading payable content knowingly or unknowingly, not you telling my gf how to bring up her kids. if you cant just deal with whats been asked mystic then dont bother replying.

I'm damn glad that my card expired then.

And in regards to the password problem, I agree with MysticG, but not as vehemently:

1. She will need to be shown how to input the password
2. When she inputs the password, it is extremely easy to see what the password is as she has to input it using the controller and an on-screen keyboard, thus you can see what letters she will stop at. Its the reason why I refuse to do anything password related on my xbox when I have people in the room

Consequently, her son will have to leave the room every time she has to put the password in and at some point he's going to see/learn it and use it behind her back, like he was with her credit card info on the account. We've all been kids, and although this isn't as bad as the time i pushed a tree on top of my best mate and left him pinned, it will only lead to trouble down the road.

what real problem?
that she should talk to the boy and tell him that it's not right to just spend her money like that? That she has to work hard for it? Maybe you do and give her some to? etc.

lol, new thread?
You can disable auto-renewal via the XBL website now.

Again you can now delete credit card information using the XBL website
Card delete didn't work and auto-renewal clearance is so recent it's untrue. I refused to sub again when it was cheaper to buy the code from play by about £10.

My last 12month XBL sub came in around £26.
