don't really know much about HDD but can you test it on a PC?

If I remember rightly, the formatting programs on the dashboards take a uniquie HDD ID from your xbox original hard drive to transfer onto your new one. So swapping a drive form one Xbox to another (Be it original or new) won't work.

I'd have a look around and see if there's a utility to rejig a already setup drive. Failing that you'll have to copy off the data somehow and reformat.

Bit of a pain, but I believe that's the only way you'll be doing it. Just remember, afaik you can't just bung a xbox drive in as a slave in your PC, as it won't read it. Probably some utility to let you do it available though.

after much digging around ive found that i need to unlock the hdd in the dead xbox via X3 bios which is pain as that xbox is clearly dead. shame the X3 bios just run before the hd check the xbox does.
