OK, I might be crazy to want to do this, but I've decided that seeing as I've never been part of a preorder thing before.. I want to preorder the Xbox 360.. Thing is, I don't know where.

I realise that all the larger games based stores (such as GAME, and online companies, etc..) will probally sell out the first (in fact, my local game store are not even taking anymore preorders), so I think it would make sense to go with a smaller company, or maybe somewhere like ASDA.. but I'm not sure.

I realise that I should probaly put the order in sooner rather than later, but I don't want to go somewhere in haste, and find out they'll piss me about come release date.

So, have you preordered? if so, where from? have you preordered console released before? and if so, how did it go?

Game are already sold out of their first allocation. Or at least they are online and in the stores near me.

Woolies have only just started pre-orders and only in stores not online (and only the bigger stores).

I'd be very careful about pre-ordering, think the initial allocation wont cover all the pre-orders retailers take, just like the psp.

Hhhmmm... I wonder if maybe I should just wait? I don't really mind doing that so much, it's just that (1) I would like to get the multimedia remote control - seeing as to buy it seperate we're probally looking at around £20 and (2) I'm worried if I don't get in on the first batch, then I doubt I'll be able to get one until after Xmas.

At the moment, my local GAME store is not taking preorders, but they are taking names and addresses of people who want one, and suposadly will contact us as soon as they know some more will become available. I'll probally get my name added to this list (it can't hurt after all), then keep looking for a company that might be able to GURANTEE me a release machine (such as Woolworths), or just wait until release week and see if I can get one then.. maybe..

I went with Dixon's, they may still have some online pre-order allocation left, and they are probably going to have one of the biggest allocations in the uk (as they own pcworld and currys as well). Although I'm just buying one to put it on ebay and make a nice profit, 400k in europe is nowhere near enough!

I've placed an order with Amazon.co.uk.. I have no idea if they'll have enough to cover me, but if the release date comes, and I've heard nothing from them regarding mine being sent out, then I'll go looking up the highstreet for one, and if I can find one, then go and cancel my amazon order.

I've also put my name on the GAME waiting list as a reserve for the 2nd wave. just in case both amazon and the highstreet let me down.

Best off getting it on Mail-order, I remember when I got the Xbox, I didn't drive at the time so I had to catch the bus and walk through Bristol City Centre to get it and take it home, I felt like I was wearing a t-shirt saying 'Mug me! Mug me! im carrying over £280 worth of Xbox equipment'

I had to walk from one end of london bridge (not the station itself, but the much larger area in which the station is in) to the other carrying a very expensive computer base unit a few years ago. They needed the computer moved from one office to the other.. I was shitting myself LOL.

I don't think I'd mind too much walking out of a shop with my xbox, but that's because I know I'll be able to get a lift back home... no way in hell I'm going to get the bus LOL.

As for mailorder.. I'd be more worried about some bastard at the sorting office *throwing* the unit into the back of the postal van, going over lots of bumps, and me ending up with a box of broken xbox...

I'm gonna wait until there's a game I want to play.
Top Spin 360?!

It will probably be cheaper in 5 years anyway.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for the order for an Xbox 360 that you placed with GAME.

I am writing this mail to update you on the latest information we have about the launch.

You may have seen in recent press coverage that Microsoft has announced a launch date – 2nd December.

There is an incredible amount of interest in the Xbox 360 and many people have already placed orders. It is not yet known how many will come to Europe, but it is very likely that there will be a shortage of stock everywhere when it launches, as happened recently with the PSP and in the past with the PS2.

As Europe's premier games retailer you can bet we'll receive the largest share of available stock, which we will proceed to get to all of you in a fair and orderly fashion - despatching stock as and when it arrives, on a first-come-first-served basis.

If you preordered on the first day we put Xbox 360 on the site, you can feel quite safe about receiving one for launch day, but if you ordered one yesterday, chances are you will have to wait a bit longer.

Rest assured that your place in our queue is secure, and we'll keep you informed as we receive more Xbox 360 news from Microsoft. We will obviously not charge you for your console until it is despatched to you.

There is another option for those of you who would like to be sure of an Xbox 360 Console for launch - we are still able to take launch orders for the more affordable Core System, which can be be upgraded with the addition of a Hard Drive, Wireless Controller and so on.

And to find out exciting details on launch titles, such as the Limited Collector’s Edition of Perfect Dark Zero, check out our Xbox 360 area.

Kind Regards

Jonny Austin

Working for GAME I can tell you that our allocation for the PSP was not in the minority, far from it.

XBOX allocation has yet to be finalised with Microsoft but rest assurred we are 1st in the queue when it comes to allocation.

GAME shift the most gaming product in the UK by far. Contrary to what others may post here, GAME are the biggest retailer period and we get a serious allocation of all new product. We currently command 25% of the UK market share. All our figures, accounts, deals with publishers back it up.

If you want a product and you pre-order from GAME, there is a 99% chance you will get it on launch date. I am not singing or asking you to go to the company where I work, just stating fact.

For the record I didn't ask for an XBOX to be pre-ordered for me but the people know that on launch day I will change my mind so have put my name down on my behalf. Fact is I know I will be playing the 360 that night.

Placed a pre-order at Argos today as it was only on-line place I could find that was still (at least in theory) guaranteeing 2nd December delivery.

This looks as if it will be way harder to get than the PSP only decided to pre-order that one week before release and still got one on release day.

I guarantee that's not a real pre-order unless you ordered the basic version.

I've never been a console fan but due to some of the titles being released on Xbox and the overall appearence(Graphics and on the outside) I'm going to get one. But I won't preorder. I'll wait till the price drops, way to expensive for me.

Heh, no one is questioning GAME's allocation Tone, everyone knows they will get the bulk.

Microsoft are really going to shoot themselves in the foot if they dont get a good few allocations in before xmas, demand is massive.

I got mine on order in two different places, doubt either will get me one before xmas :(

With things like this i would rather wait for millions of people to use it and figure out all the major bugs so i can buy one down the line with them all fixed and at a cheaper price.

Not sure there's any need for a new XBMC seeing as the 360 comes with media player functionality already. I'm sure they'll come out with one anyway, but there won't be as much call for it, and I expect that'll result in much more infrequent updates.

I didn't but they confirmed it by telephone and have already charged my credit card so there's gonna be trouble if it doesn't turn out to be real

Well, according to today's MCV, retail don't even get their official allocation numbers until next week...

And Argos charged your card? Already? What kind of a lame-arsed pre-order system is that? None of the other online stores (GAME, Play, Amazon, Gameplay, HMV) do that; its considered very bad practice, and I think its actually illegal under distance selling regs now.

Bugger :(

Dear Customer,

We have been informed by Microsoft that they have not produced enough Xbox 360 consoles to satisfy the demand in Europe. For this reason we regret to advise you that we are unable to guarantee the delivery of your pre-ordered console before Christmas. We are working closely with our suppliers to ensure all orders are fulfilled as close to launch date as possible. However, if you wish to cancel your pre-order please do so by visiting ‘My Account’ and following the instructions at Play.com.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.

Kind Regards,

Play
