I've heard rumours that M$ will be releasing another version of the XBox 360 with the addition of a HD-DVD drive, so if I were to buy one, it certainly wouldn't be on that first batch.

Yep MS have backed Toshiba's HD-DVD for inclusion into future xbox units. So it's utterly pointless getting one with just a plain old dvd drive.

What the MS guy said (cant remember which MS guy it was) was something along the lines of -

'We may look to include at some future point a larger capacity drive like HD-DVD.'

Was absolutly no commitment that they are going to, its just pure marketing BS given the PS3 is coming with Blueray MS felt like they needed to say the XBox 360 might have HD-DVD, but this one has shot themselves in the foot as people will now wait for a product that might not even exist. Can understand why this rumour has spread though is there was a lot of rumours pre the Xbox 360 being unveiled that it was coming with one as standard.

That argument makes no sense at all. Allocation is based on, a. Whose got the biggest market share, b. whose got the best buyers, and c. who agrees to the best trade marketing. GAME will get the most units and I guarantee you they won't have taken any preorders yet - they don't until they get a confirmed release date. Check the website. Of course, they'll try to tie you into a bundle, but there are ways around that if you really don't want to.

Where do you think of when you go to preorder a games console - Game. Even with it recieving the most number of preorders it will be the first to use up all of its preordered amount. Its the same with any thing where the quantity is in short / limited amounts. For example the Harry Potter book sold out in some bookstores (who would of had massive quantities delivered) but yet lots available in supermarkets, etc. Hell I bet you will probably be able to even find the odd XBox 360 for sale on release day in places like Asda even with the very small numbers coming to the UK.

true, when both ps2 and xbox got released game sold out and my brother didnt get either for a week after release date, me im just lazy and cant be arsed driving to leeeds so i drive to me local currys outlet and preorder from there, i got both mine on day of release.

Not at all Ukle. Game will probably get an initial allocation, that will be increased based on how many orders they take. And it will be the same for other retailers.

Nintendo have screwed up big time IMO with the revolution. And I really want to like and support Nintendo, but there is little in the new machine that makes me want to buy one when I have a gamecube.

Yup revolution does seem to be akin to vaporware* with how little info it has out, also by the look of things wont be out till 2007, given no dev kits etc.

* yes I know its not vaporware its just all there is to see of it at the moment is just marketing speak and only from one company. While with Xbox 360 and PS3 all we have is marketing speak but from loads of companies
