Xbox 360 crashing/hanging

anyways back to the original topic, how are you supposed to go about returning the x360? think mines over a year old and was purchased from game play. do i give them a ring or ms? ive already emailed ms thru xbox.com the site doesnt explain much in the way of getting your 360 replaced

Just phone them and say you've had it just under a year. They will go by the seriel number, so you have some leway on the exact date of purchase. MS are pretty good with returns, they know the first batchs had problems and aren't going to charge you and risk losing a live customer.

The fact that I know people who have gone through multiple 360's is evidence enough. I had 4 PS2s in a year, even though I rarely used it except for the odd Gran turismo game with my mates. Both of my friends who had PS2s had at least one replacement for their own console in the first year, one was the original style one and the other was like mine, the slimline case. It was ALWAYS the drive failure and always the lense yet Sony did sweet FA to sort it other than tell us to take it back to where be bought it and they knew about it for years.

I'm no MS fanboy I simply know that in my experience the people who I've spoken too and not the over the top keyboard warriors online (like yourself) who contribute very little to forums other than trolling and whinging your arses off.

EA stated that they thought the Xbox 360 failure rate was between 30 and 50%, which as most people will say is a joke, it's certainly not as low as MS's claimed 3% either though, it's in between but not particularly high compared to my experience of the PS2.

So next time you want to troll, at least put some FACTS into your posts instead of just driveling any old shit and insults that come to mind. I'll probably sell my 360 at some point to get a Wii, it appeals more to me and I can get away from the same old retarded PS v xbox "discussions" that happen whenever one or the other is mentioned on a forum.

Even if it is only a 3-5% failure rate (on the 360) that still means you are going to see alot of message on forums about busted boxes since 5% of 11 million sold units is some 500k busted machines. It will certainly seem like there are alot of broken machines out there.

Not defending MS in any way though, and i do think the failure rate is higher than 3-5%, probably more like 20%, and it isnt a very good practice by them. Still it is an excellent machine as long as it work, and mine does work fine so far.

I'm on my 4th PS2 now. Only one was due to drive failure - it was generally mistreated at uni, got knocked over 3 times and spent 6 month in a hotbox, can't say I'm shocked it went. I pleaded ignorance and Sony sent me a new one next day. I traded that one in for a silver one cos it had a quieter fan, which then survived 3 years of uni abuse. It's still in the cupboard next door. I then bought a slimline one cos they're cool as fuck. Cos I'm no longer at uni and I actually look after it, it's been sound.

I'm on my 6th mobile phone since then, yet that seems acceptable. Considering the abuse mine have had, I think the PS2's pretty well made. I know there were issues with the early ones, but on the whole I'm sure the failure rate isn't that huge, considering how many are out there.

I guess the other one was a complete write-off and they decided to send a brand new one back instead... or, more likely, it's someone elses old one which got sent back and has been repaired.

When it broke down, I actually considered just not bothering to get it repaired and wait for the PS3 to come out and get that instead, but I thought I'd give Microsoft another chance. However, if it happens again, I will give up on them.

People seem to be suprised that they only get refurbished units in return when their main unit dies. All the console manufacturers do this, it is nothing new.

And if your console is under warrenty, why give up if it dies? You just get MS to sort it for free. Be pretty silly to just chuck it because it doesn't work if you can get it replaced or fixed for free.
