X-Box Emulator for PC

Further proof that X-box is indeed a mid-range (now low end) PC.

The emulation has already started.

See Lik-Sang News for the article.

It looks like it is still in its very early stages, but surely it won't take long for them to have it running at full speed.

***WARNING** - it could all be a hoax (as the site says) to implant a Trojan in your PC.

If it is real, I wait for Bill Gates and his Lawyers to act (once the Anti-trust case has finished).

:p

Yep, it looks like it.

But I would bet a lot of money that a real working emu comes out in the next 2 years.:D

Companies are putting bigger investments in and thus they will protect there products through the courts. It still takes a lot of PC to run the N64 emulators, let alone a Xbox emulator ;)

What would be a good processor to run a 64 then?
And for that matter an X-Box?

At least a 1 Ghz to get N64 games that almost perfect feel :)

Blimey, so i take it an X-Box would be in the region of about 2 to 3 times that?

the dvd drive is a main prob fer emulaters the connections diff from ide/scsi and somat bout xbox dvds start from 1s instead of 0s theres been quite a few sites claiming to have em running wit dodgy screenshots. anyways if a proper one does come out im betting me money on the fat m$ lawyers.

Only if you're looking to run it at 2048xwhatever :)

Nope. If you have a fairly good gfx then maybe an 800 Mhz will do but under that and you loose that N64 feel :)

i disagree, i got some N64 games running fine on my work puter (which is a AMDK6 400mhz i.e. crap!) i have put my voodoo3 in there tho.

The only prob with it is trying to play them with a keyboard, it just don't compare to a n64 joypad. And as much as i try my n64 joypads won't plug into the pc :D

As I am sure Embattle was about to say:p , get a Joypad adapter which allows you to use either PSX or N64 joypads on your PC.

I have one and now use a PSX pad as my main joypad.

I got mine from HERE.

It's the only time it will run on a slower comp, with a voodoo since the UltraHLE was dsigned with that in mind. The best one atm is Project64 and uses D3D, needs more.

Well then its hardly surprising it needs more than a gig for fucks sake, why in christs name did they use d3d? spastics :(

There was an opengl option.

Although generally it's only been Glide up until recently, then you could run them on Nvidia cards by using a wrapper, all of which means more power required.

cheers for the link Ono, but it's just a gimmick to me to be able to play them on the pc :) cos i normally just download the games i already have for my N64. :D

trying to find roms is hard tho, sites keep popping up and then getting taken down. i think most of my emulator favourites are dead pages now :(

X-Box emu?

An emulator to emulate a console, that in effect is nothing more than a PC already?

Lol.

Surely the reason it took such a beefy machine to emu an n64 is because the architecture was different, and the emulation was far from perfect. thus a ninja (ack, how long has it been since we called them that) pc was needed to compensate.

In the case of the xbox, the architecture is almost identical (i think) to that of a pc, hence emulation will be easier, and the spec needed wont be that much higher than that of the xbox itself. whereas the psx was 33mhz (wasnt it?) and to emulate that well you needed a fair amount more than that..

(that's all theory btw)

A GF4 would probably manage it cos of the extra something or other unit the XBox (and the GF4) has over the GF3. Nothing else would do tho for decent emulation atm tho :)
