Not as good as it could have been, but still worth the cash, this ones out a week early, so go grab a copy if you can find one.

Oh please. Even if your not a wrestling fan, Smackdown 1 and 2 were (next to Tekken) the most enjoyable beat em ups money can buy.

Actually I'm not a huge fan of the PS series of games, the N64 ones are still better, however its still a vast improvment over the last PS release SmackDown 2: Know Your Role

Actually Nibbler for the increased number of moves, better grappling system, better player focus system, easier double teaming, better damage system, etc. the N64 versions are far more playable.

If the next WWF Release (Raw is War for the X-Box iirc) is to make an improvement it needs to blend in some of the N64 features with the current PS ones.

However even knowing its limitations doesn't make that Smackdown 3 much less playable.

It doesnt matter meg! (ho ho ho).

The ps series of wwf games were far more enjoyable and playable, which at the end of the day is what matters.

The N64 game WCW VS NWO Revenge is still - in my opinion - the finest Wrestling game on any format.

The feel of Smackdown does seem better for fans though, being that there's no substitute for an official license, glitzy presentation and an all-round package that makes you feel part of the game.

At the end of the day it just depends on what you find more important: Great graphics, sound, presentation etc or well-balanced playability.

at the end of the day, its important for a game to have all those factors to be good :)

WWF No Mercy for the N64 added lots of functionality to the gameplay of the THQ wrestling series though, including but not limited to
  • ability to switch between front and back grapple
  • apron special manuvers
  • running grapple manuvers & reversals
These and rakes of other features are unfortunatly not in the PS titles, which I think is a shame :(

Oh and a game doesnt need all those factors, just read Jays column & look at that worm game, its fucking ugly, but its playability rocks.
