i found leveling in WoW a breeze compared to the mindless grinding in DAOC

fun, you can get 50 and equiped / ML-ed in less then 3 days played.....

in WoW you can help people but PL-ing is not working

10 man on ventrillo working together in crap gear > well geared zerg

off course better gear wins with equal organisation / skill. Same with DAOC. Getting the best gear is hard in WoW but rank 10 pvp gear, which everyone can get after a few weeks of moderate pvp make it possible to compete against 80% of the people you fight

And that is exactly the problem with WoW PvP. How long can you stand to play the same game of WSG, AB or AV before you want to rip your own eyes out? If you play with a good team, each game is identical, and if you play with a bad team, you lose. Instanced PvP is just far too stale to remain entertaining for long.

Depends

On one of the servers I played, I wanted a high rank. It didn't take me long to talk myself into taking a spot in the 'warlord' team, but if I ever wanted rank 14 I'd of had to pvp 23 hours a day, every day, for 8-9 months. It's not only the time it would take, but being a rogue (and the setup that the server generally used) I was assigned to guard a node in AB all the time (except the odd times we played WSG) now I had to do that for 16 hours a day for a few weeks to maintain even enough CP to hit rank 11. I think it's still the same on that server, the leader of the team often gets over 1,000,000 weekly CP and I think his record is about 1.8 million, now if you play there and want to get above rank 11 or so without spending a year then you have to be in that group.

Since then I haven't pvp'd much at all, it's not because I don't enjoy PvP, it's because queues on Turalyon/Alliance are ~25 minutes, and after playing on my previous server of 1 second queues it's quite annoying so I don't bother with it :p

Just noticed I went way off-topic, but anyway... The point I was trying to get accros is, yes the games are repetitive if you're in the best team on your server and just totally own any other teams, but if you're on a server where there's quite a few decent pvp groups, and you're constantly faced with challenge, the games vary a lot.

At low levels its great. I got to lvl48 in a couple of months by casual playing, was very relaxing overall. Could just log in, do a few quests or grind a bit, log off.

But the more I read and heard about battlegrounds & end game instances, the less I wanted to play and eventually went back to daoc.

From casual pov:
leveling in wow > leveling in daoc
endgame in wow < endgame in daoc

battlegrounds are great for casuals, even if you run into a premade raid once in a while

The point I was trying to make was that they cant vary, because that is against the very essence of instanced PvP. Every decent PvP team will use identical strategies, because these strategies are the best ones to use on a map that NEVER changes. And if they dont get the upper hand at the start, they will use identical counter-strategies to try to win the game back.

I'm pretty sure I remember having some problems with disc 4, I think it was cause because I was trying to install from a dvd drive - I only think this because on the 2nd attempt it installed fine on my non-dvd drive. Hope this helps!

Didn't remember it had 4 discs. Hmh. Don't think it took THAT long though, but my computer always has been such a sweet lady to me :D

Like the "massive" patches...took 1 minute.

You must have learned quick not to use the Blizzard downloader for patches... it took me a while to work that out :)
