Would you be offended?

If I told you that "Hey, you kinda look like <insert movie star or other famous person here>!" Would you be offended? I release it might depend on who I said you look like, but.. as long as it's not an ugly or otherwise undesirable person?

I made a post on the Conan forums about a Funcom developer looking like Dexter (out of the TV series) and I had people replying to that post telling me i'm "pretty damn stupid". I don't know if they mean because he doesn't look like him, or if they think that I was rude. So.. should i write a post there and apologize? I certainly didn't mean to insult anyone, least of all the Art Director of Funcom! Note that I have no idea if he read it himself (I really doubt it) and those two commenting seem to be some kind of aggro teens making a lot of "lol" and "owned" comments and such.

I´d refrain from saying "hey, you look like Marty Feldman" to someone, even if it´s true. Most of the time, however, it´s completely ok.

You shouldn't care what random forum posters say about it, and especially not think it might be offensive, unless the art director of funcom kicks your pixels for it.

And yes, I guess my main worry is that I did something horrible and that the Art Director would be insulted. I mean.. maybe he hates Dexter? I don't really care about those trolls, but I was just thinking maybe if they had a point? Personally I love the show and the Dexter character is one sharp looking fellow, so I would take it as a huge compliment.

the art director wouldnt have read the thread, and if he did, he would most likely find it funny/a compliment anyway.

I take it from all these comments that people are generally pretty relaxed about these things, as long as you're not downright insulting. I guess those two just had to write something, and trolling one-liners was all they could muster up.

wether or not people get offended is their own business, if i feel that someone looks like somebody famous/i know i will tell them, if i find it appropiate and cba. their business to get insulted or not.
