Would this best be described as lag ?

Brought a new custom built PC with the following specs some 2 weeks ago which includes:

Intel P4 3.0
1 GB DDR dual channel PC3200 ram
ATi Radeon Pro 9700
Asus P4C800
Win XP Home
D-link 10/100 Ethernet
NTL 600k Cable Modem

All other online games run great with no lag, bad pings or display issues apart from DAoC.

This is the prob..

What i see on screen is all other chars, NPCs, mobs etc appear to lag for 10 sec periods most of the time..ppl run through walls, pulled mobs disappear & trying to /stick on something often gives the message they are too far away :/

My lag perf meter often goes red when nothings around but when i stand on pad in CS with 100 ppl there i can run about, type messages, cast spells etc without any prob but i see all other chacacters appear to lag even tho they aren't :/

After 10 mins of being on & alt/tabbing out when i check connection details it says packets sent 900, received 4.950

If i ping connection it says sent 4, received 4, lost 0
min 23ms, max 26, average 24 ms.

Have tried all the latest drivers & those before, changed resolutions, graphic card settings, reinstalls, removed a stick of ram, removed sound card, tried another graphic card, have SP1 + all crit updates, direct X9b & tried connecting using USB port instead of Ethernet card.

Whats left to try & what kinda prob does this sound like ?

Any replys thx in advance :)

i have to agree with Sheep i think your CPU is perhaps UNDER-clocked try upping the core frequency in your bios, i did on my AMD Athlon XP 1600+ it was running a 1ghz WAAAAY under what it can run at and i didnt even realise for months, now its buzzing along at 1.8ghz and is fine!! but make sure you have a good enuff fan to cope!! now my screen lag isnt there anymore i still get lag ghosts in RvR but then so do a lot of people.

Thx for the responses, tried upping the core rate in bios to 10% & 20%. At 20% (3.6ghz) PC becomes unstable so i've left it at 10% (3.3ghz) However problem still persists :/ guess i'll just have to make the most of Lineage II Beta :)

I had similar problems..

Try dropping the anti-aliasing and antroscopic filtering on the gfx card. If that doesn't help, try to install the previous drivers for the card before the newest ones if that makes sense. I've often found the latest drivers can cause problems with some games.

Yup alrdy tried the above, currently using the latest Omega gfx drivers (2.4.74a) rather than ATi's 1's as i've alrdy tried ATi's 3.2/3.4/3.6 Catalyst Drivers.

Seems to me you pc don't have a problem

My lag perf meter often goes red when nothings around but when i stand on pad in CS with 100 ppl there i can run about, type messages, cast spells etc without any prob but i see all other chacacters appear to lag even tho they aren't :/

but the timing between other clients and you.

hmm open up the network connection

right click on properties
then the button properties
now you got into the protocalls youre nic is talking.
there sould be 2 or 3 entries:

Client for microsoft networks
Internet protocal (tcp/ip)

and if you need , otherwise remove it.
File and printersharing for m$ networks

if you have things like netware , packet optimize etc , remove it no need for it.

after you checked that go back to the network card and look at properties of the card himself

it sould be on 10 or 100 and FULL duplex .
you can force it to use full duplex and 100mbit
is better then auto find out.

maybe this works.

K, tried the above..internet connection/web pages seem to load faster than b4, thx. But still not addressed the prob with DAoC :/
