quite fun, nothing spectacular. Lots better than Mechwarrior 3 though IMO.

Its better than Mech 3 mainly because you can blow more stuff up. apart from that its the same.

Mechwarrior 4 is an excellent game, it is more team based and when you get into it especially online and being recruited by a unit you will be Hooked! people join for the experience and fun, most join for the seriousness of War online with MW4 and the Btech history. There are alot of various leagues with Role playing elements, Ladder leagues all there to prove whether you are a real Mechwarrior. The experience is memorable when you rise the ranks and skill.
Here is an example of one of the famed Ladder leagues with role playing elements where everyone try and prove their worth in 1 v 1s and organised team battles:

Which is based based on the Btech history and has tons of Role playing elements including Gaining planets placing garrison on certain planets, making production of new mechs, finding resources on planets and all to the point of WAR. Raiding other planets and taking over, stealing their productions, gaining intel and territory. These leagues add to the experience after you have first learnt to pilot a Mech whether it is a 30ton cougar or a 100ton Kodiak. So whether your ready or not, come and join the war! Mechwarrior!

Yes 'tis a great game, my only criticism is that online play in publics normally turn into laming fests of hill humpers.

It is good if you like team play. I still play and enjoy it. Best if you join one of the many units and play in a league.
Watch out tho, as with any game this old there are many so called "L33T" players out there.
