Worth coming back, as a cleric?

I'm considering giving daoc a go again, I used to play a rejuv cleric, and got to around level 40 or so if I remember correctly. I quit before shrouded isles, and before respec but I remember I wanted to change to rejuv / enhance type template.

Could you tell me whether it'd be fun for me to come back? When I quit, there were lots of high damage classes around and so most groups choose high damage over healing and I never got a group.

Some time ago, ppl whined alot about no one wanting to play cleric in alb, because its almost a gimp class anyway you specc it.
I have made a cleric who is 38 atm, and trying to get groups isnt really easy, since people are more reluctant to level a buffbot.
Also Lyonesse is infested with high lvl sorcs and cabbies at all gobo spots, so xp there sucks. ( you pull some, kill em and get low xp, cos they have been DoT´ed yesterday, but not killed).

All in all, there seem to be many clerics at my current lvl and higher, so xping is hard, since you cannot solo as a Rejuv cleric.

In my case I do get xp, because Im in a uber guild ofc. <Royal Bavarians>.

I would advice you not to play a cleric at the moment if you decide to come back! The situation is so grave for clerics atm, that I would have abandoned my cleric if it wasn´t for my guild.

But if you try the Friar class you will be able to do the cleric job and solo.

Hm ok thanks for the replies. Looks like its similar to when I left - people would rather have the sorcerers rather than clerics, because they know theres a cleric wandering around somewhere if they need a res

I heard about the pvp server, sounds interesting but I also heard its just full of people ganking greys....

I need a replacement for ultima online, since their latest expansion its got pretty terrible. Maybe daoc isnt the answer though.

Look mate - the issue with buff bots is rubbish IMO. It never used to be an issue, and a Cleric was a well respected group member.

Most people that have a buff bot level them with another character, so saying that this is the reason people do not want them in groups is a poor excuse.

Why not flip the whole thing on it's head? Buy a second account, and roll a Necro on one, and a FULL Enhance Cleric on the other...you will level so fast you'll think all your Birthdays have come at once

Do this until Lvl 40, and then respec the Cleric if you like. You then have a high level buff bot to help you level an Infi or whatever else takes your fancy.

I have had two accounts for a month or so now and do not know how I ever managed before. I never bother with groups anymore, and the game has become a lot more enjoyable for me

There's certainly no more of the bullshit you used to have to suffer "What's you Lvl, Class, Which way is the wind blowing, sorry you are too low you can't join' crap...so go for it mate

avalon city is the new place to level, thats why theres never any groups in lyonesse, yes the entire place has become unviable : /

Last week or 2 lvling in Avalon city have been hell to get a cleric. Enh clerics arent generally welcomed in groups, rej/enh ones indeed are welcomed as they are rare. Today a group was started with me in it, we waiting 1 and a half hours for a cleric to pop and in the end settled for a friar who popped. We then died 30 minutes later due to not enough healing (i think) and an unlucky pull, the friar ad to leave and we spent another hour trying to get a replacement before we disbanded the group entirely. Clerics are in big demand but for PvE as a rej/enh cleric, u cant solo and the only place 40+ to lvl now is avalon city (exp and drops are great) so yes another cleric there would b fantastic

Funnily enough, the fastest levelling group I've had in Avalon City was when we were trying to find a healer, and consisted of:

3 x Paladin (one of them me)
1 x Infiltrator
1 x Theurgist (also me )
1 x Minstrel
1 x Ice Wizard

We decided to pull while we waitied for a Cleric / Friar, and then found we didn't actually need one with 3 pallies using heal chant....

No deaths, and nice fast exp.... a second Ice Wizzie would probably have been a better addition than a Cleric

My Cleric is only 13th level, so I suspect that's why I have been inundated with invites around Plains PVE areas.

...but my 33rd Friar can't get a group anywhere, even though I can solo oranges with ease and heal for 180...so...if anyone ever needs a 33 Friar, PM Evanescence in game...I'll be on tonight from 7pm GMT...

well that´s good and all, that you are having fun But for me, fun is playing with other people. If it wasn´t I wouldn´t bother playing an online game. I´m not in a hurry to get to lvl 50, farm money, get SCed capped stuff and be uber in rvr.
I simply just wanna have fun now and grouping is fun for me
I found out that the more I wanted to get to lvl 50 fast, the more I hated PvE and the game as a total.
Oh and I wasn´t saying buffbots was THE sole reason for giving other people a hard time getting groups, it just adds to the difficulty.

Leave lyo and move to Avalon City,the new Lyonesse,cleric should find group there always.

Well I've got a lvl 30 Rejuv/Enh cleric and I cannot get groups. I'd love to join Avalon City groups at lvl 40 but I cannot see how I can *get* to lvl 40 to do that :/ Barrows - no dice, hardly any groups there any more, it's been taken over by solo lvl 45+'s. DF - you're joking right? Spend an hour as a cleric flagged LFG, pm'ing anyone within 5 levels of yourself who's flagged looking for group members, 1 in 4 (at best) reply *at all*, majority ignore you totally, the ones that do reply won't come and pick you up and expect you to be able to make it to cook room on your own, yeah right. Lyon, well as previous posters have said it's screwed now, no chance of groups.

So how do us rejuv clerics who aren't in large guilds level? I can barely solo greens, I have zero, nada, zip offensive spec. Is my only option to be PL'd now?

had a group in salisbury plains with 4 clerics in it (low levels here obviously)

was funny took about 5 minutes for 2 of the rejuv clerics to actually realise they should be fighting with their maces

Go to avalon city - there's people crying out for clerics.

Lower levels? barrows seems quite good at the moment to be honest... do /who 30 35

Next patch we get a much improved looking for group system - that'll help.

But as a level 39 cleric you should be fine for groups just go Avalon City and watch the xp roll in.

From lvl 40+ it should be easy to get groups ..

in my guild we consider it a good day if we have 3 cleric's for 3 groups

most liky it is 2 clr's for 3 groups

i dont understand people that actually choose to be healers. i really dont... i think i must have a completely different mind set to them, i cant see any fun in healing... ok your an extremely important part of a group, but i'd rather be the most unimportant (infil) and actually have fun in rvr. i think people that choose to be rejuc/enhance clerics are either female or of female opinion.

You are speaking from your own perspective, which is a view not shared by everyone. I take your point but dont agree.

Some folk are motivated by altruism, some not.

Many people have a cleric as an alt, so if get bored, can switch to their wizzie or tank and nuke things.

Clerics are often the most important people in a group. Without a healer, who's gonna save your arse in a Calleach Preists group ? Who's gonna rez you if the Paladin is under 30th level ? Where else you gonna get base buffs without a Friar ?

Clerics enjoy it cos they get XP, they get Protect / Guard by the tanks, they are totally depended upon to keep their HP up, and you can do RL stuff if as a cleric or mincer, you spend much of your group life standing still or sitting.

Thanks for the info, its really interesting to read. If I did want to come back, would I need to get shrouded isles? I've never heard of avalon city, so I assume thats part of the expansion?

Come to think of it, I don't even know whether my characters are still going to be there. Its been a good 6 or more months since I closed my account I think. I certainly won't want to start at 0 again.

It is part of the expansion indeed.
You do not have to get SI, but it is very nice, and worth it for sure. Nicer graphics, cool new areas.
I still have to explore most of it, only did some quests and some Caer Sidi raids, but love the area.
And rejuv clerics are loved and cherished by most, so you should do fine. Just take some time to build a circle of known people.
So they ask you when they need a cleric.

Get Shrouded Isles.

Clerics go from 40-50 extremely fast in Avalon City...
I have had them overtake me.

Shrouded Isles is a nice new area and I have to say, that portal from Gothwaite Harbour to Castle Sauvage is very handy when you want a break from XP etc.

If you buy SI and your level 40 just respec to rejuv/enh go to Avalon City and i bet within 5mins (probably within a few seconds) you will be able to find a group. Healers and Paladins are most wanted in Avalon City from 40+

The new content and engine make SI worth buying.. hell, Avalon City is enough fun on its own to justify the 20 quid (IMO), and the rest of the new zones are magic as well..
