i wonder how it interacts with peripherals since there will be a significant time sync between them and the processor

I owe my friend money now, didn't think they'd get to it this fast already. Hmm.

ive read the entire page and parent/child ones i cant seem to find out what it does... is it just very very fast?

impressive though, whatever it does

well basicly, the theory behind quantum physics says that for every little action there is a numorouse variable of oportunities, and that insted one of the actions taking place, they all do so, meaning that billions and billions of our univers co exsist in the same time and place. "very roughly put"

now what a quantum computer is supoused to do is to be able to calculate all variables "at once" in sted of "one at a time" wich is what our current digital platforms do,

the example most often used is "The Perfect dinner arrangement" who sits beside who..ect now mathematicly this would take ages if you were to take into account every single variable, were as by calculating with all the variables at once..well.... ;)

Now however I'm guesing there is a limit to how many variables this new comp can handel, we'r not talking about astronomical dimensions not even close.!

so basicly the difference....digital = one at a time, Quatum = all at once.

I'm sure some nerdy type can explain it better or correct me ;) "

now if they can get this to work... perhaps they can have a go at Fusion power next :D

With a true quantum computer... any operation should be completed instantly. Read quite alot about quantum computing, infact I just finished Michael Crichton's excellent book "Time Line" where it explains a bit about quantum computers and very basic quantum theory. Interesting stuff... highly confusing though.

For those who cant be arsed to google... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_computing

wouldn't you have to tell it what the possibility's are though? since it has no real inteligence

just had a thought... IBM a while ago made deepthroat(a specific computer for pwnz0r-ing anyone at chess, it would look at all possible moves and access them due to risk, then pick the best move) isn't this a quantum computer?

if so, Overdriven you cheated... and owed him the money from the start of your little bet...

No, that computer was "simply" a very "fast" computer, but it is still digital, meaning it calculated the variables 1 after the other really really fast.!

a quatum computer does it all at once. if you read docwolfe's link you'll see the difference, and well yes ofcause you have to "tell" it wich variables are present in a given calculation.

but i'm not exactly a math wiz, so it's kinda hard to explain it, best way would be...

A classical computer operates on a 3 bit register. At any given time, the bits in the register are in a definite state, such as 101. In a quantum computer, however, the qubits can be in a superposition of all the classically allowed states

i did read it, went completely over my head though... but does that meen that there's no loading time?

and, i want one bad... wonder if they'll sell it to the public? and how much will it will cost?

and... unlimited cpu speed? thus ending this stupid 'have to update every month' attitude?

and its gonna be affordable to others then those with unlimited cash?

initially no... but over time it will be affordable, much like the PS3:p

it just occurred to me, this is pointless, unless they can manufacture a HDD with the same capability's, that is ofc if you have unlimited CPU speed

They're working on devices that store information as photons (light particles), they've managed to effectivley slow down a photon so much that it doesn't move. As with every other peice of technology it depends on other technologies to be feasible.

lol... sounds like star trek if you ask me

but is it instant? cause it meens little for this specific topic otherwize
