So when your computer is not doing much ( like listening to MP3s, visiting forums ) you can let it run in the background and it'll use the spare CPU time to compute stuff like protein folding, identifying ideal drug candidates that stop viruses like anthrax and smallpox, general stuff that make the world better (Cure for cancer?)
