Newcastle striker Alan Shearer has postponed his retirement and will play on for another season, say reports.

Shearer, 34, had insisted several times that he would quit in May, but he has been persuaded to stay on at St James' Park for another year.

The former England captain is just nine goals short of Jackie Milburn's club-record total of 200 goals.

BBC Radio Five Live understands Shearer will confirm the decision at a new conference on Friday morning

I dont know what to think myself. He has be undoubtly the best foward in the Premiership so far for years. But he is not getting any younger, I think he should call it a day when Wor Jacks record is broken, go out on top I say.

Still BE A WARE Premiership defences. Im so glad he plays for us and not against us, he would have had a right laugh against us at the beginning of the season!

There was a poll on TalkSPORT yest afternoon about who is the better
Owen,Shearer or Liniker. 95% of the people said Shearer most were actually Man U fans.

Thats because Man U fans have seen World Class players year in year out and Shearer is one of them. If he Joined Man U, he would have one everything inlcuding World Player of the year.

That's only cos Coisty didn't play in the Premiership. He makes a better pundit too.
