Well, thanx to everyone who helped out fixing me problems with mu puter after reformat - last night I finally sorted the auio CD eating problem and all is sweet again.

So, what have I learned? well, I have a spare PCI slot (possibly 2 if I rip some more stuff out ;)) and I have Win95 C.

Question:

Is the 'new' USB support in Win95C actually functional? or was it something that they included as a nice extra and then never got going until Win98?
If I were to get a PCI USB card (for running joysticks mostly, maybe one of the new optical mice at a later date) will it work? or am I destined to find buggy problems with the win 95 support? - eg, would I be limited to VERY early USB stuff (for instance, a red flashing "on" light.....)

I'd like USB cause I have gamepads and a joystick to be plugging in, but only 1 can go in at once, and I'd rather not keep hopping round to the back of my PC to play any flight related game.

Thankyou

Because in 95 is what I have - its an old PC. I couldnt get a "free" copoy of 98 from work so had to settle for a newer win 95 - I cant be arsed to get 98 just for the sake of having gradient title bars ;)

- This is why I enquire about the USB. TUG? you must know surely...

win95 NEVER had proper USB support

even when they said it was "Fo'real" it wasnt

m8, if you took 6 hours to download win98 off net, it would be worth it, i would even send ya a copy if i got me cd writer any time soon

Yep, if you get OSR 2.1 and your mobo supports USB, it *should* work. That's why they made the update I presume ;) I'm pretty sure I had win95 on when I was using a USB scanner of me m8s on my PC.

ok - actually, cant find the info on their website, soooooo
what's the best way of finding mobo manufacturer?
Mobo is in a Time (cough) PC. Socket 7 (Cyrix CPU), onboard graphics is an SiS 5596, and PCI/ISA Bridge is an SiS 5513.
Also has an ESS Audiodrive on board.
any ideas? it's 3 years old too... (/mes saving for new one... slowly..)

Also, where abouts on the mobo should I look for the manufacturer? (SiS is purely the chipset yes?)....

It's likely to be unbranded if from Time...

Here's a good one, has it got USB ports @ the back? :) If not, then here's another - has it got a manual that says it has plugs on the mobo for USB headers?

Other that that, I can send you SiSoft Sandra that is a system info util and it might tell you what mobo you have. Gimme a shout on ICQ if I am still on your list (26021081)
