Siobhan Freegard of the parenting site Netmums (that well respected thinktank :p ) called the report a "wake-up call".

"The consequences of young kids viewing horrific porn are only just becoming apparent with sex attacks by underage kids doubling in some areas in just 12 months and kids as young as five being assaulted.

Nice - clearly the doubling has to be due to porn even though theres no evidence for this.

Call me a cynic but I suspect changes in recording of such offenses is a more likely cause tbh.

"Doing nothing isn't an option and we need to implement everything in the report and more to keep our kids safe."

Lets do something based on an imaginary threat!

All the violent/sadistic porn was made illegal here years ago so you wonder what more can be done other than people actually parenting?

Giving children unrestricted access to porn via smartphones seems to be the issue here, AKA shitty parenting giving in to pressure from their children.

But we can blame porn, if thats what they're into.

Censorship of the internet is their ultimate aim.

I just wish everyone just fuck off tbh.

I'm also thinking about what happens when you start teaching primary age kids about this thing called porn that exists on that naughty internet :p

Another shocker case of parents blaming the system(instead of themselves), like PG rating in games?

I wonder if she actually read the report - its main reccomendation was that the government give them more money to do more research...

Additional ones were 'rename sex and relationship studies to relationship and sex studies' - I kid you not :p

It had no definition of what actually constitutes porn which I found a fairly fundamental flaw.

To be fair they did state they had significant problems but these seem to have been overlooked by those who wish to use it as a campaign basis:

"Overall, there were seven significant concerns about the reviewed evidence base:
1. The lack of consensus within the literature regarding what was being examined, or even about
who could be considered a child or young person, meant that it was difficult to generalise or extrapolate.

2. Problems with operational definitions of key terms made comparison challenging. These
problems included limited knowledge of children and young people’s conceptions or
understanding of pornography.

3. Why do we still not know anything about causality? Maybe it is time to ask different questions. <- this is Key

4. Has the nature of the issue changed qualitatively or merely been exacerbated by the pace of
technology and people’s uncertainty in a climate of rapid change?

5. Very little research has been conducted that keeps children and young people’s experiences
at the centre.

6. The impacts of cultural differences and cultural context are rarely acknowledged or examined.

7. Few papers reviewed for this REA – whether they were included or excluded – even began to
consider the effects of pornography on children and young people who were: an ethnicity other
than the majority for the country in which the research was conducted; a sexuality other than
heterosexual; transgender; or anything other than able-bodied and with full capacity (relative to
their development)."
