Women and suits?

OK what is it with women and suits? I'm wearing a suit today 'cos we've got a GP's meeting I'm helping out with, and no less than 7 different women have said "Ooh you look nice" to me.

No, I don't look nice (well, no nicer than usual anyway \o/ ), I look like just another clone in a shirt and tie ffs. Are they implying that normally I don't look nice? That I'm an ugly fucker and they're distracted from that fact by a small piece of useless cloth called a tie?

Is it something instinctive in women - men in suits are more likely to be unquestioningly obedient to them and thus make better mates? Is it that they want mindless morons as partners/fathers to their children? Is it implied success, ie. man in suit = more likely to be in good job (stupid, I look like your average fucker working in a shoe shop, the clothes I normally wear every day are much more expensive than this cheap ass suit and crappy M&S shirt)?

Any women here with some insight enlighten me please :)

Women in suits (preferrably Pinstripe) and combined with thin rimmed glasses = sexiest thing ever.

Back on topic I have no idea, but don't knock it.

None of those things. You just look different, you scruffy git.

I've worn a suit for years, and nobody at works bats an eyelid UNLESS I wear a waistcoat as well. At which point... "oooh! YOU look nice today!"

Should my friends see me out of work in my suit they say the same thing. It's just a change, innit?

Sort it out, man.

Could you just confirm your sexuality as it's not easy to tell from your post.

I always find that Suits on women always show up their camel toe.

There is what I term "padded shoulders syndrome" amongst the selection criteria for [potential mates by women.

Big shoulders are generally attractive to women, they symbolise physical strength and the metaphorical ability to bear the burden of fatherhood. </desmond morris>

Most suits have padded shoulders, to enhance this attractive feature. However, as far as women's intuition is concerned, the aspect of the choice of suit has become more important than actually having big shoulders, i.e. a man in a nice suit (with mediocre shoulders underneath) is preferable to a man who really does have big shoulders.

A suit to me needs to be functional, I like to carry around all the geeky gadget tools of my trade in the pockets, but many suits are designed to have empty pockets, even the inside ones, for fear they will distort the designed "shape", perhaps this is all part of the elaborate mating ritual where the women seeks to deprive her chosen mate of everything he owns.

Designer suits will rarely leave you with anything in your wallet anyway, so I suppose it's no use carry one :)

One of the sexiest things I ever saw was a very good looking young woman in London.
A Lambo Diablo (red) pulled up to park near Harrods.
The door opened and out got (very skillfully) a tall long legged love bunny carrying an attache case, wearing glasses, pinstripe short skirted suit.

ahhhhh..

I'll be back in a bit, I've got to erm "do" something................

Suits are a straight forward no-nonsense control mechanism designed to make sure you know you're owned and controlled.
Frankly, I've always seen a tie as a symbolic Dog lead and collar, and the suit is just a uniform that says "I obey".

I used to work at "a certain insurance company" and after years of asking they finally adopted a "Business Casual" dress code. However, that code prohibited Jeans, T-shirts and anything else that was likely to actually be in your wardrobe.
Why? They are a phone based company selling insurance. I never heard of a single case of a customer asking "are you wearing jeans? I'm not going to buy your product if your wearing the same sort of clothes as me".
No, of course that doesnt happen. Its simply a control mechanism more suited (no pun intended) to the modern context as the more the control mechanism is out of context in the chosen enviroment the more it becomes obvious that it is a control mechanism in the first place.

I wear a black shirt, black tie, black trousers and black shoes to work. First time I wore it, everybody said I looked like a bouncer :)

[edit: I don't mind wearing a shirt and tie either, if I wear my black stuff, I don't look like anyone else at work so what's the problem with lack of identity?]

The girlfriends not exactly a smart dresser, shes a student. But we went to Camden and she proceeded to buy a pair of knee high boots and then a fitted pinstripe jacket and accompanying skirt.

Having never seen her in anything like this before my jaw dropped when i did.

Its all about change, she goes all wobbly if i deign to wear a suit, even if its just the jacket with a pair of baggies.

Odd.

Although I agree with what Ted says I don't subscribe to the conspiracy aspect of it at all.

My workplace had "dress down Friday" during the summer, then it became all-year round, and now it's an all week policy. However, the list of restricted clothing essentially puts you in a shirt and smart trousers, just the tie and jacket has gone.

I've completely given up on the idea and just wear a white shirt and tie like I did before, rather than complicate my mornings deciding what to wear like girlies do and save myself a small fortune on avoiding the Gap/Next addiction. I actually see a point in limited fashion options now :)

The "uniform" dress code is not an ascendance to obedience, rather it attempts to push out the more bizarre clothing styles some people are liable to adopt if you just give them a free hand, some of which might disturb or influence those you have to work with, it has less to do with customers and more to do with respecting your cow-orkers.

I personally don't have a problem with what anyone wears, but there _are_ some people who do, and unfortunately most of them pay the wages.

I daresay companies would allow T-Shirts, but then you have to start issuing even more bureaucratic nonsense to avoid the more controversial designs printed on them.

I think far more companies than we imagine would be open to the idea of casual work wear in some departments. The whole American work ethic penetrating the UK as it is, wed all be much happier in jeans and a t-shirt and happy = productive = money = more fat cats.

Some people do tend to abuse it though, a resident Quakenetter deciding to wear this : http://www.tshirthell.com/shirts/tshirt.php?sku=a102 to work on Sept 11th.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to be penetrated by Americans.
