Hmm.. this is very strange, never had this before, but everytime i go to play a Movie, Short clip et al, in Windows Media Player it crashes and gives me this error:

mmswitch.jpg

Ive tried WMP 8.0, then i updated to 9.0, neither worked, so i tried RealOne Player, some files worked for ROP but the rest did not. I tried Zoomplayer and other types as well with the same outcome.

In Event Viewer this is the error i get:

erc.jpg

Anyone know?

Im on WinXP Pro

Hi Super_Gray[SG]

Just a flying visit, but off the top of my head, have you tried updating, or rolling back, your graphics card drivers? As it seems the files aren't the problem, and as the problem occurs in different players, the graphics card drivers seem to be one of the few remaining possible causes of your problems. Just check either nVidia or ATi (or your graphics card manufacturer's website if needs be) and ensure you have the latest stable drivers. The Drivers and Utilities thread details the applicable version numbers. Like I say, I'm not 100% this is the cause, but it may be possible.

Kind Regards

Well that one got me thinking because i was only on my Abit Siluro Drivers.. so i just updated to 30.92 Nvidia Dets but still.. nothing :(

Altho... when i did look for words above in search engines, all i got was German or something, but it did mention Norton...

I installed Norton IS 2003 recently but didnt actually try any files before hand because i recently formatted...

*hm*

I'm reluctant to post this, as I'm unsure what 'mmswitch.ax' does, but some people have found that trying the following fixes any such errors associated with the file:
  1. Click 'Start' > 'Run'
  2. Type 'regsvr32 /u mmswitch.ax' (no '' quotes)
  3. Press 'Ok' and then reboot
Like I say, use this at your own risk. Alternatively, use Babel Fish on the German page.

Kind Regards

/me doesnt like your term of using "try at your own risk" ;)

Hello :p

The downside is simply I don't know what it does, so I thus cannot say whether it's safe. If I had to guess, I would say it is safe, but then again I'm sure how to undo it, which is never a good thing :)

Kind Regards

Hello :)

I'm glad everything's sorted. I'm still not sure what that file actually is, I know it's not on my computer, though :) Nevertheless, in this case, all's well that ends well.

Kind Regards
