Wireless quickie question

I am building a "concept PC" that is intended to have no external wires apart from the power cable, so it will have a wireless NIC.

I have an existing LAN, consisting of a 5-port 100/10Mb Switch with a 4-port 100Mb Hub uplinked to it (7 ports total), can I buy a wireless hub and uplink this as I have done with the wired hub ?

Any suggestions for a cheap wireless NIC/Hub kit would be appreciated too.

You'd need a wireless access point...cheapest I found was Quicklinx 2N94WS at dabs.

Its hardly what I would have termed a 'Concept PC' if its only a file server... To me a 'concept PC' should have the functionality of a normal everyday PC rather than be a glorified disk drive.

To each his own...

Perhaps the "case" is the "display" ;)

There are actually a few PCs around that use the 802.11g (54g) wireless standard to beam the visual content to a remote display. It seems 802.11b doesn't have the necessary bandwidth, but 54g does, and as such you can even beam DVD movies and watch them wherever you are :)

Kind Regards

P.S. I'm telling you this, but in reality it's probably very hard to achieve. The only computer I've come across using it is a £2,000 system, a bit like a tablet PC. The base-unit features the drives and such, and the LCD display sits on top, but can be detatched to allow you to work around with it, whilst still receiving the images wireless from the base unit.

Not too sure of the terminology here, but is a "wireless access point" is basically a hub with one or more RG45 ports on it ?

I think so...I've never actually set up a wireless network, but that is the impression I get from reading up on them a bit.

A Wireless access point is like a hub yes. It's primary job is just that to be the hub that the wireless cards/pcs communicate with. Many of these also have ethernet ports for connecting old fashioned ethernet components :)

And along with that you can get some models that are also routers.
