Winning ...

Contrary to what most Quake2 players seem to be thinking at the mo. winning isnt everything , I know, this may be hard and well a little bit of a weird consept for some but hey .

Prime example :

I went onto a BW DM server not to long ago where no-one would say a thing , ok I know its not IRC but for crying out loud when only 2 ppl out of 12 say hello ...

Anyhow mibbe im just a tit ... but who cares

I'm disappointed when that happens as well.

One time I just joked about how nobody was talking and how were all getting down to serious business. In another game I just asked if anyone spoke english as it was 2am.

But it is laughable when there's silence, it happens a lot in Q3test.

If you stick to the same servers most of the locals usually say hi I tend to find, if you know what I mean. It only takes two secs after all (just about enough time for someone to Rail you

I find that when servers are full of aliasers its rarely friendly, the lpb using "newbie" or "player" or sumthin aint gonna stop to acknowledge anyone, these faceless turds are just out to get to the fraglimit first in as little time as possible with no interaction whatsoever with other players. After all they are only using an alias in the first place cause they are afraid of losing and ruining some imaginary reputation they believe they have. So typin anything to interrupt their fraggin isnt an option.

These people are also usually the sad girls blouses who frag you when you stop to type to

BW CTF is the worst for that, I've been on there when its full and noone has said a word for 10 minutes, other than team binds.

At one point I railed someone who had the flag, he fell off a wall into some slime and melted.....I did a 'LOL!' and he said 'fuck you lamer'.....and this guy plays for UC one of the top CTF clans. Talk about taking things too seriously.

An addition to that is egos, these morons all have egos the size of FK what, I could show people lots of logs and evidence of it all, one option I considered is using all the pathetic things like console tweaks and zooming scripts and all that bollox and showing people how shite they REALLY are by respawn railing them 20 times to get my frag count up, just like they do, I wonder if they would play as much if they were getting lamered on? I seriously doubt it [This was the edited version BTW I could make it alot more colourfull

umm .. can I ask who that was .. ?

We in UC do take our games seriously .. however we are also known within the 'scene' as really nice guys .. always helpful .. and always courteous ..

It has taken a long time for us to to get this image .. and we don't want to lose it now .. so if you're able to give the name out I will make sure that person gets a ticking off ..

The problem with dm rather than some of the mods is that unless somebody has hi bound to a key people aren't going to risk getting themselves killed for somebody they don't know. If you are on something like a ra2 server people appear more friendly as a reasonable amount of them probably aren't playing at the time

Well instead of starting another thread I thought Id use this one cos it is V V apropriate, basiccly Im going to plug my collumn http://www.hexus.com/plans.shtml?column=HOL again, basiccly I will never say better than that as to the reasons Im leaving Q2, Im not sure if Ill miss it or not, Ill certainly miss what it could have been, not what it is as we speak, wether this 'cancer' will spread to every online game or not I dont know, all I can say is goodbye and it could have been so much more

I have found myself recently taking the game too seriously, hence the near move to clan Zn, (formely VHWN), nd have realised tthat winning aint everything. Quake 2 is a game built for fun, thats the idea of it. I always say hi, mainly to those that come in the server and say hi aswell, or the locals and ppl i know (hint - say hi to the decent guys, gets ya some cred in the server
