I just got it today, bloody amazing, even if i cant read a work of japanese, i'm still trying to figure out which team is which atm. The graphics are amazing, the play is fluid, but theres one small problem....the loading time.

For some reason the disc is reading bloody slowly, PS2 loads, goes to swirling lights, they dissapear then "PLAYSTATION 2" appears. then black. for about 5 minutes, then the video plays fluently.

I carry on and all is fine until the moment i load the kits after selecting the team, again i have to wait a few minutes before they appear.

Selected, takes 3 minutes before the pitch appears, commentator goes "YAMAHA TOKYO TOYOTA ENGLAND AGAINST WALES" then theres another loading pause of 3 minutes or so.

Now i could bear all this, except for the fact that everytime the football goes in touch, i have to wait 3 minutes, black screen, for it to load, before i can play on.

Argh, anyone else experienced this? or perhaps knows how to fix this??? All the other games on my ps2 run fine except this one and its damn annoying :(

I think yor PS2 is fucked.

I've had this for a couple of weeks now with some pretty long playing sessions and haven't noticed any of your problems. Nor have I read about them on the net.

YOu could do what I do though and that is plonk all your games on a HDD and play them off there.

That would surely be more trouble than it's worth, considering SCEE don't have any plans to release the HDD in Europe.

New PS2 for you Munkey, however, you could try the cleaning tutorial, which is here.

Took the PS2 to one of the local shops and told them to fix it. I diddnt have any rubbing alcohol i'm afraid.

Still, i hope it works! and i dont have an HDD, but i miss the elegance of WE without them

You've evidently not heard of HDLoader.

Ok...

Ummm, that looks like an American product. So, errr, is it even compatible with a PAL PS2? I mean, you might as well get the official NTSC hard-drive...

There are PAL versions and there's another similar thing out now called HDAdvance. It would cost a lot less than a NTSC official HD and you can dump all of your games to it, not just parts of ones that support it.

Right, took it to the shop to get it cleaned (for free as it turned out) and the game works a charm now. An absolute charm

It's the best football game i've ever played. Took me 30 mins just to get the hang of it again (lost 2-0 against liverpool, was 1-0 down against fulham in second game then 1-5 up by the end of the second half) The animation is fluid, liquid. You see a slide tackle and you go "wow", I'm still trying to remember the advance controls atm but I'm sure they're still there. i've edited most of the team names for England, and some of the player names for the international team (the joys of buying the jap version *rollseyes*)

Just one little problem, when the penalty box gets crowded e.g. during a corner, the game gets a bit choppy, not the framerate, but bits of the screen seem to lag and update a second later. I diddnt mind it tho.

Replays have been made much nicer, no longer does it replay a shot even if it was 200 miles wide of the goal, it now only replays the decent shots and, of course, the goals themselves. When you jump between replays its fluid instead of jumpy which i thought rather nice.

I've still yet to try the Master Leauge but i think i can safely say, the best game ever.

No MP mode in mine. Found a problem, or rather something i find a nuiscance. If you're a shit team i.e. Wales (who i play with alot) and someone bumps into you, the player staggers like a drunkard for 30 seconds whilst the other team runs away with the ball. Infact it can become a big drunk orgy if its the midfield and its crowded. Bloody annoying.

Still love it tho

LMAO. NTSC Drive?! :twak:

This is what you need to play games on your PS2 HDD:

PS2
Maxtor Diamond Plus 40 gig + HDD (I have 120 gig)
Official PS2 Broadband Adapter (£17 from Play.com)
Copy of HD Loader software*

*HDLoader was a retail release but $ony recently told all shops to stop selling them so you won't find them for sale anymore. The only option is to DL the cracked version from Bittorrent. They come in NTSC and PAL varieties (although I have not seen the PAL for DL).

If your PS2 is not chipped you can only play the PAL HDLoader and all PAL games. If it is chipped (like mine) you are in there!!

I think I have about 50 games on my PS2 HDD at the moment and it really speeds things up.

Some games won't work on it though - like Gradius V.

Details, impressions and some pictures by me (see post #69) of how easy it all is here:

List of HDDs here:

http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/

I would strongly recommend the the Maxtor Drive that I got though.

WD drives don't generally fit as the connectors don't line up with the BBA.

Nope. Not unless you patch it.

I've got the English player and team name patch and use the various online guides to find my way round the menus.

PES4 is out soon though so you may want to wait for that.

I hear that the WE series is better than the PE one though.. I know they're supposed to be the same game but Tekken X/Soul Calibur X etc were always better on the jap/us versions.

Very, very slight tweaks between the last in the series, far more pronounced before that. PES2 was appaling compared to WE6 and WE6:FE. I think it's likely PES4 will have very little change from WE8.

I believe you can buy a ps2 > xbox port so you can plug your ps2 pad in.
