Quick Question....

Anyone know how to force an upgrade to Win2K from WinME??

It's a pain in the arse if I have to do a complete rebuild - it'd probably take me the best part of a week with the amount of stuff I've got on me HDD (some of it v.important so it'd mean backups galore :(

If you've heard how - giz a shout!

Just to reiterate:

U probably cant - never tried it!

I would not surgest that anyone trys to upgrade to 2000 from anything, the bast plan is to format and then to have a clean install.

BUT before U do any install of 2k make sure that U have, phyiscally have, all the drivers U need - its a major pain in teh arse if U haven't, sometimes U cant actually do the install.

Hope U get 2k running its a great OS, best i have used yet.

I agree.

I did the NT->Win2K upgrade and was disappointed by the general flakiness. Backing everything up and installing from scratch made a big difference. I know it's a pain, but if you have V. Important stuff, it should be backed up anyway.

Partion your drive and setup a dual boot Win 2k and Win 98 se. Best of both worlds, and piss easy to do.

Also if you lose one OS (which lets face itsn't hard), you can generally still get to your files to back up and stuff.

Fekking thing.....

OK - so completely wiped my system. Installed 2k... installation went fine.

It's hardly more stable than Win98 or ME on my system - and the same ugly problems are rearing their heads ..... games freezing, unexplained crashes.... (can't even get Deus Ex to run).

Smeg.

Any ideas - here's me specs:

Athlon 1Gig
Asus A7V
512Meg PC-133
GeFarce DDR
SBLive! Value
Couple o' unbranded NIC cards
BIG F*ck off 21" monitor :) (not helpful - but you have to show off sometimes ;)

All the AGP/VIA 4-in-1/Reg tweaks have been carried out.

I Windozed updated to death....

What's the internal temp like? Could be an overheating gfx card.

Nah - that doesn't figure - both fans OK - plus the room I'm in is fekking FREEZING!! :)

Bios update on the MB seemed to help slightly - though not perfectly - and I've dropped the CAS value of my RAM from 2 to 3 (or rather increased it (but it is CAS 2 ram))....

May do another clean install.... Can't see it doing much good tho.

Ta for thinkin 4 me ;)

You really should have just done a dual boot.

Made a new partition with about 2 gigs, and put the win2k cd in your drive while ME was running. It would have said it cannot upgrade but suggests a dual boot.

Oh well wont help u now.

Anyway, are all your drivers installed properly, and up to date.

For games you will need dx8, liveware 3 for 2k and a stable det driver (6.50 and 12.41's gave me no problems).

have u put sp2 on yet?
